JOB DESCRIPTION The Specialist: Networks maintains the Development Bank of Southern Africa’s ICT environment by identifying network requirements: designing network infrastructure architectures, installing upgrades and monitoring network performance. The role also manages and maintains optimal network performance to maximize the Development Bank of Southern Africa’s operations and productivity.
RESPONSIBILITIES Key Responsibilities Network Infrastructure 1. Configure security settings or access permissions for groups or individuals. 2. Upgrades network by conferring with vendors; developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements. 3. Configure and define parameters for installation or testing of local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), hubs, routers, switches, controllers including interface configuration and routing protocols or related networking equipment. 4. Establishes network by evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput, latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network procedures; establishing connections and firewalls, or for disaster recovery purposes. 5. Identify the causes of networking problems, using diagnostic testing software and equipment. 6. Install and configure wireless networking equipment. 7. Install network software, including security or firewall software. 8. Install new hardware or software systems or components, ensuring integration with existing network systems. 9. Maintains network performance by performing network monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems; escalating problems to vendor. 10. Test computer software or hardware, using standard diagnostic testing equipment and procedures. 11. Troubleshoot network or connectivity problems for users or user groups. 12. Monitor industry websites or publications for information about patches, releases, viruses, or potential problem identification. 13. Test repaired items to ensure proper operation. 14. Research tools that aid to maintain the smooth operations of the Information Communication and Technology infrastructure services. 15. Planning and scheduling of network infrastructure projects impacting the Bank.
Network Governance, Compliance and Risk Management 1. Adherence and enforcement of the Development Bank of Southern Africa ICT policies. 2. Research, develop and promote innovative solutions aligned with the ICT Strategy. 3. Assists and provides support network capabilities to the ICT team and the overall DBSA team. 4. Carry out multiple tasks efficiently without compromising quality. 5. Perform related tasks as and when required. 6. Provide assistance in the planning and implementation of new systems. 7. Provide assistance in testing new equipment and systems. 8. Liaising with relevant 3rd parties towards the resolution of technical issues. 9. Contributing to the execution of the patch/fixes/firmware management solution. 10. Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware. 11. Plan, coordinate, and implement firmware upgrades to network equipment and ensure network equipment is always up to date. 12. Administer day to day operation of networks and servers, implement Local Area network (LAN), Wi-Fi and Wide Area Network (WAN) maintenance and management procedures. 13. Support the use of project management by contributing to project teams, completing assigned responsibilities by established milestone dates, and effectively communicating with the project team. 14. Secures network by developing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining documentation 15. Back up network data. 16. Research hardware or software products to meet technical networking or security needs. 17. Contribute to the development and review of the Service level Agreements between the Information Communication and Technology Unit and business including third parties on behalf of the Bank. 18. Collaborate, with team by working effectively with team/work group or those outside formal line of authority to accomplish organizational goals.
Reporting and Documentation 1. Document network support activities. 2. Create or revise user instructions, procedures, or manuals. 3. Create or update technical documentation for network installations or changes to existing installations. 4. Maintain logs of network activity. 5. Run monthly network reports. 6. Document Information Communication and Technology network infrastructure designs and standard operating procedures. 7. Develops, maintains and acts on proactive reporting from the network infrastructure. 8. Creates and maintains Standard Operating Procedures.

EXPERTISE & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES Minimum Requirements 1. A degree/diploma in IT . 2. 5 years network administration experience. 3. Cisco CCNA certification.
Preferably 1. Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation certification. 2. Microsoft Certified IT Professional . 3. Minimum 5 years’ experience working as a Network administrator in a Cisco environment. 4. Minimum 5 years’ experience deploying and maintaining network infrastructure components (Firewalls, Routers, Switches, Wireless technologies). 5. Minimum 5 years’ experience managing Local / Wide Area Networks and Wi-Fi.
Skills & Ability 1. Experience in the design, implementation and management of network infrastructure solutions. 2. Experience in the design, implementation and management of Microsoft Active Directory environment. 3. Experience in mobile technology infrastructures. 4. Experience in the Information Communication and Technology industry, the mechanics of its operation, and its trends. 5. Ability to support junior Information Communication and Technology members to resolve issues. 6. Experience in and understanding of Network Design Architectures. 7. A sound knowledge of ITIL. 8. Ability to create, read, analyse and interpret technical diagrams and written procedures.
