JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a one year fixed term contract with an option to extend for an additional year.

The main purpose of this role is to oversee and lead all stakeholders and partnership relations, the main responsibility being fundraising and communication. These should be guided by the current strategic plan.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The key responsibilities are:
1. Develop and implement fundraising and communications strategies of AWHF.
2. Develop and manage partners’ relationships and ensure continued support to the AWHF.
3. Identify and cultivate prospective financial and technical partnerships.
4. Develop and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, i.e. decision makers, government officials and national and international institutions, as well as relevant nongovernmental organizations in the field.
5. Develop and maintain relations with private sector (foundations and companies), national and international agencies in a way to make AWHF’s work visible and relevant to them.
6. Evaluate partnership results and advise on ways for improvement.
7. Monitor the implementation of AWHF’s Strategic Plan.
8. Any other duties assigned by the Director in line with the strategic objectives of AWHF.

Key Measurements of Outputs
1. An annual fundraising work plan developed and implemented, including but not limited to partnership and fundraising events and engagement with stakeholders in South Africa and abroad.
2. An annual communication and marketing work plan developed and implemented, including but not limited to partnership events and publicity materials/platforms such as brochures, website and social media, annual and quarterly reports, newsletters and media articles.
3. Digital and online profile of AWHF enhanced with partners.
4. Demonstration of leadership skills and recognition of expertise in area of responsibility.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
EXPERTISE & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Minimum Requirements
1. Relevant degree in Public Relations, Communication, Journalism or related field.
2. At least 3 years’ experience in stakeholders’ management preferably in multilateral context.
3. Able to communicate fluently in English. Ability to easily interact in French will be an added advantage

1. Fundraising skills involving proposal writing, event planning and partnership management.
2. Can develop and efficiently manage communication strategies, materials and platforms including digital.
3. Ability to develop and nurture institutional and professional networks in support to AWHF’s work. These include UNESCO (and its advisory bodies), the African Union (and its Regional Economic Communities) and private sector.

Written & Verbal Communication
1. Technically experienced and fully competent writer.
2. Can write independently various technical and non-technical documents.
3. Write effective correspondence, prepares questions and reports, statements of circumstance and briefing notes.
4. Able to present a theme in writing in an ordered, intelligible manner with well-structured and relevant supporting detail.
5. Able to understand topic switches and use vocabulary of attitude.

1. Knows how to deliver presentations appropriately (e.g. maintaining eye contact, the appropriate use of hand gestures etc.) and at the correct pace.
2. Knows how to clarify and confirm people’s feelings, concerns and needs.
3. Can reinforce key presentation points with examples.

1. Designs / customizes reports to meet user needs.
2. Prepares complex or tailored reports, gathers information from a variety of sources, analyses and includes in a report.

1. Working understanding of Marketing and Communication principles and best practice, and of typical Marketing and Communication activities.
2. Ability to take a key role in Marketing and Communication activities, such as collecting and analysing market information and visitor/user feedback, cataloguing press cuttings etc., archiving photos, producing and disseminating marketing materials, planning and organising communication and events, and dealing with press and other media.
