JOB DESCRIPTION 1. The role of the ERM Professional in collaboration with the Principal: ERM is to proactively manage the risk levels within the Bank to ensure that the Bank’s risk profiles are aligned with its tolerance for risk. 2. The ERM Professional is expected to assist in strategizing, developing and instituting processes to ensure that group wide risks are identified, assessed, managed and reported upon and that there is effective co-ordination between risk management structures in the Organisation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ERM Operational Functions 1. Assist the Principal ERM in developing and implementing the strategic direction for the DBSA in terms of ERM; 2. Establish the ERM risk universe and ensure there are no gaps in management of specific risks and risk categories; 3. Establish functional methods and processes to implement the ERM strategy within the DBSA; • Prepare and submit Annual ERM Risk Plan for the DBSA and all other reports as per the requirements; 4. Develop, implement and oversee the Risk Appetite Framework and Risk Tolerance levels for the Group and per Division; 5. Facilitate the drafting and maintaining of divisional risk registers for Divisions as requested by the Principal ERM; 6. Provide support to Management in integrating risk management with the strategy development processes; 7. Develop, implement and communicate ERM policies and procedures to Business; 8. Facilitate the development of risk management strategies for the Organisation’s critical operational risks and find appropriate solutions to mitigate and manage identified risks (inclusive of Basel requirements); 9. Facilitate ERM assessments and monitors priority operational risks across the Organisation; 10. Align ERM process with Internal Audit, Credit and Investment risk processes and all other Risk and Control Functions across the Group; 11. Build project risk management capabilities with the DBSA; 12. Work closely with Operational Risk Officers and other monitoring functions in ensuring effective combined effort and assurance on risk management; 13. Undertake any task as directed by the Manager: ERM; 14. Assist in developing the ERM Cluster’s strategy and execution plan in line with the Divisions and Organisational vision, strategy, and goals; 15. Determine cluster objectives and targets for inclusion in the Division’s Balanced Scorecard; 16. Monitor, evaluate and integrate risk activities across the Bank; 17. Facilitate the strategic risk process and related reporting.
ERM Best Practice 1. Elevate and evolve the status of ERM within the Group to at least best practice; 2. Play a trusted advisor role to Management and the Executives with regard to leading risk practices and consulting activities; 3. Determine emerging risks on a timely basis.
Divisional ERM Advisory Services, Monitoring & Reporting 1. Provide a professional ERM advisory service to Business; 2. Ensure that group wide risk projects are managed and implemented in the Business (excludes credit and investment risk); 3. Communicate and facilitate the use of appropriate ERM methodologies, tools and techniques; 4. Works with Business Divisions and Units to establish, maintain and continuously improve risk management capabilities; 5. Implements appropriate risk reporting to the Head: Group Risk; 6. Provide an independent view regarding proposed business plans and transactions; 7. Develop, monitor and report on Corporate key indications; 8. Conduct risk investigations as required; 9. Assess status of Corporate mitigation actions; 10. Participate in special project risk reviews as required.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
EXPERTISE & TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES 1. A post graduate risk qualification or equivalent; preferably in Risk Management; 2. A well-developed knowledge of development finance, risk management philosophies, practices, etc.; 3. Familiar with the relevant legislative framework; i.e. Basel II, GAMAP, GAAP, IFRIS, etc.; 4. Project/Programme Management; 5. Risk Management Specialism Qualification: 6. Minimum 5 Years of experience in Enterprise Risk Management; 7. Expert knowledge of risk and financial management principals, philosophy and methodologies to participate in the most complex risk assignments undertaken in the DBSA; 8. Good understanding of Finance, Treasury, Credit and other risk related matters affecting the Bank and the Divisions; 9. Ability to quantify and aggregate risk for management and reporting purposes.
Skills & Ability 1. Able to use technical and business understanding to understand inherent risks group wide; 2. Able to apply a wide range of financial and risk assessment and mitigation techniques to the Organisation’s and it’s client’s business; 3. Able to develop innovative solutions, identify new areas of opportunity, and identify, analyze and address the appropriate risks to move the Business forward; 4. Ability to facilitate and communicate superbly at all levels; 5. A sound knowledge of the development finance industry, the mechanics of its operation, and its trends; 6. Knowledge of Basel requirements and ability to develop complex and simple risk models.
