JOB PURPOSE:
The pro-active and on-going implementation and management of good international practices for Country Risk and Financial Institutions risk management for the IDC.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Enhance Country Risk and Financial Institutions policies, systems and procedures and management processes for the IDC,
2. Review and update Country risk / FI governance structures;
3. Undertake primary rating of counterparties (Countries and FIs) and propose overrides;
4. Submit annual review reports and undertake monthly / quarterly portfolio reporting to relevant committees;
5. Formulate, review and manage Africa limits and/or exposure in alignment with the IDC Africa strategy, Risk Appetite and/or emerging risks,
6. Responsible for the on-going and pro-active monitoring and reporting of Country / FI risks within the IDC including watchlisting and/or removal from watchlist of counterparties;
7. Pro-actively manage actual and/or technical excesses and breaches and implement corrective action in line with the IDC Delegation Matrix
8. Provide country risk commentary on cross-border transactions, including leadership guidance to business on limits, appetite and mitigations.
9. Undertake independent country risk assessment visits to key IDC markets, and accompany teams in cross-border transaction travel, as necessary;
10. Work collaboratively with relevant divisions and assist in the development of differentiated and superior solutions that meet business and risk requirements;
11. Provide expert solutioning capability for complex transactions in area of responsibility;
12. Ensure effective implementation of set of strategic objectives for the cluster;
13. Ensure cluster has in place processes that are regularly reviewed to assist in achieving best international practice;
14. Develop methods and ways to mitigate capital allocated for cross-border exposure;
15. Act as sponsor of country risk applications to committees;
16. Exercise Delegated authority as provided for by the IDC Delegation Matrix
17. Ensure adherence to good corporate governance and compliance in line with policies;
18. Maintain, review and update all policies related to area, ensuring the IDC does not lag other lenders in the adoption of global changes to relevant risk management practices;
19. Participate in the development of data integrity tools and the provision of easy access to data for area of responsibility.
20. Partner Human Capital to provide expert training when required in area of responsibility.
21. Constantly scan market for regulatory and policy developments that would impact IDC lending in various markets.
22. Conduct Credit Risk Assessments for Financial institutions where IDC has exposure and provide commentary to Committees
23. Involvement in all Association of African Development Finance Institutions(AADFI) processes, including the completion of the annual PSGRS ratings.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s in Economics or Commerce
2. Financial Economics and/or Accounting courses will be an added advantage;

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
1. A least 10 years’ work experience in similar role within a Financial Institution.
2. Practical experience in using models for the rating of country and FI counterparties and easy interpreting of results for decision making;
3. Proven track record of cross-border engagement with senior country stakeholders involved with the African continent;
4. Knowledge and understanding of portfolio risk management and proven ability to guide and manage portfolio movement.
5. Knowledge and understanding of Risk Appetite frameworks, risk pricing and how to effectively minimise and / or mitigate Country and FI risks.
