Reporting Relationship The Business Development Manager: Continental Coverage will report to the Head: Chemicals, Medical and Industrial Mineral Products.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
1. Proactively source and develop bankable transactions/deals within the SBU’s sectoral focus area in the rest of Africa.
2. Develop pipeline to increase revenue and economic profit from existing and new clients to achieve the SBUs strategic objectives, industry development goals and the IDC’s developmental outcomes.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Internal /Operational Processes
1. Originating investment opportunities based on strategic fit, developmental outcomes and economic viability.
2. Planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives/strategies aligned to IDC’s sector strategies.
3. Conduct detailed market assessment: identifying, researching, filtering and prioritizing of new market opportunities to improve deal sourcing.
4. End to end management of the deal sourcing process, anticipating client needs and responding with innovative solutions to clients emerging needs.
5. Increasing the value of current customers while attracting new business.
6. Being one of the main points of contact externally for the business.
7. Identifying and closing of pertinent business leads for the IDC.
8. Pitching of potential deals/projects to SBUs.
9. Leads the participation and presentation of IDC at investment conferences and roundtable discussions.
10. Provides input into the sector development strategies and product development initiatives of the IDC toward the enhancement of an active deal pipeline.
11. Client networking
12. Manage all risks within areas of responsibility and ensure compliance by following regulatory requirements and IDC’s internal policies.
13. Attending conferences, meetings and industry events to generate new business and to observe industry trends/opportunities.
14. Developing indicative term sheets and funding proposals for clients.
15. Screening of enquiries and basic assessments of applications
16. Participate in the DD process with specific focus on strategic orientation and developmental outcomes.

Customer Focus & Stakeholder Management
1. Client relationship management
2. Ensuring that customer complaints are attended to timeously and feedback is provided to the complainant and SBU Head.
3. Gathering of feedback and taking corrective action on client queries to ensure satisfaction and retention.
4. Build relationships, networks and collaborate with internal and external key stakeholders and clients to position IDC as the 'go-to' funder for development financing opportunities and ensure that IDC’s product offering and expertise are used to the optimum.
5. Building influential and sustainable relationships with strategic partners to assist SBU in achieving its strategic objectives.
6. Close liaison with the SBU’s deal-making and specialist teams as well as Post-Investment teams to ensure alignment in client service.
7. IDC representation on Boards / Steering Committees
8. Participate in internal product, scheme or fund development.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Minimum qualification: relevant commercial or technical Honours Degree or equivalent qualification.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. 8-10 years’ experience in a corporate environment with previous focus in a Business Development / Coverage and deal sourcing / project origination role.
2. Experience in Continental Coverage is required.
3. Experience in the Rest of Africa and state-owned entities
4. Experience in leading, initiating and developing new business strategies and opportunities to create a pipeline of development impact projects/deals ensuring deal flow and bankability.
5. Strong ability to develop networks and relations with clients, both local and global, in order to identify and source viable projects/investments.
6. Deal making experience in the specific sector will be preferred
7. Proven experience in working with senior stakeholders in highly political environments
8. Proficiency in client relationship management.
9. Knowledge of IDC products and services.
10. Knowledge of clients, their financial needs, and the sector they operate within, translating this into actionable plans and strategies for both IDC and clients
11. Sound knowledge and practical understanding of:
1) global markets
2) emerging industries
3) good networks within sector in both private and public space

12. Experience in coaching and mentoring of team members
