JOB PURPOSE To manage a team of Environmental Health and Safety technical specialists providing environmental, occupational and health safety functions with specific focus on the following: 1) Ensure that the IDC resources and investments are applied in an environmentally sustainable manner 2) Positioning of the IDC to comply with Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental applicable legislative and industry standards. 3) Provide technical and professional advice and assist with practical implementation in projects and transactions to ensure environmentally sustainable investment. 4) Identify and recommend interventions to mitigate environmental, health and safety risks during project and transaction implementation.
Reporting Relationship The Manager: Environmental Health and Safety will report to the Head: Technical Services
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Financial /Shareholder Returns 1) Ensure adherence to IDC budgets, implementation timelines and conditions. 2) Ensure IDC achieves desired Environmental Health and Safety outcomes internally. 3) Ensure compliance by the IDC and its business Partners with all relevant and applicable environmental laws.
Internal /Operational Processes 1) Providing advice and assistance with implementation throughout the deal making/project process related to environmental, and occupational health and safety matters. 2) Identify and recommend interventions to mitigate risk during project and transaction implementation 3) Plan, co-ordinate and manage the activities, impact and outcomes of the team. 4) Drive a culture of quality outcomes, risk and opportunity identification, best practice and peer reviews. 5) Drive collaborative liaison and symbiotic co-operation with internal and external clients and stakeholders, including SBU’s, Departments, Business Partners, industry forums, government departments, etc. 6) Procurement, appointment and management of consultants and service providers. 7) Provide advice and reporting to the IDC Executive committees. 8) Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic objectives of the unit 9) Support investments and lending initiatives with EHS matters (EIA & licenses) 10) Provide targeted EHS awareness in the organisation. 11) Oversee the EHS management system and reporting 12) Participate and advise on various clean technology initiatives in support of the development and growth of the green economy. 13) Provide the IDC with a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory allowing it to identify and reduce its major emission sources and estimate the associated environmental cost. 14) Advise on and drive alignment with Principles for Responsible Banking and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Customer Focus & Stakeholder Management 1) Effectively interact with different SBUs and departments in order to fulfil the process requirements related to any specific deal / project. 2) Build and maintain influential relationships with strategic stakeholders (internal and external) 3) Manage and enhance the levels of service and communication to ensure the provision of client service excellence. 4) Support the presentation of strategic objectives and operational plans of the unit to key decision making stakeholders within the Corporation (Executive Committees and other committees as required)
Learning, Leadership & People Growth 1) Maintain current knowledge and awareness of the Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental landscape and effective practices. 2) Provide strategic leadership and management to maximise effectiveness and drive high performance and delivery 3) Ensure the effective management of the team, including employee motivation and development 4) Protect the interest and wellbeing of employees and establish suitable communication lines with them 5) Provide leadership that fosters a culture consistent with the Corporation’s values 6) Coaching and mentoring of team members.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 1. Minimum qualification: relevant commercial or technical Honours Degree or equivalent qualification. 2. MBA or master’s would be an advantage
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 1. 8-10 years experience in Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental managerial position 2. Experience in management and leadership of teams. 3. Understanding of the legislative requirement relating to Occupational Health and Safety and Environment. 4. Knowledge and exposure to a variety of industry sectors. 5. Experience in engaging, managing and negotiating with relevant specialist bodies, governmental bodies, environmental groupings, etc. 6. Experience in interacting and presenting to Senior and Executive leaders and various committees. 7. Experience working in a high-level collaborative environment 8. Ability to manage multiple competing priorities while building effective relationships 9. Extremely organized and persistent, with drive and determination to achieve goals. 10. Understanding of responsible banking and Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) Principles 11. Exposure to climate change related work and Task Force on Climate 12. Related Financial Disclosure (TFCD) data collection and reporting
