MAIN JOB DESCRIPTION
LOCATION Lagos, Nigeria

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND CHALLENGES
1. Providing sound commercial and legal advice to clients:
2. Deliver a comprehensive range of legal services on all aspects of financial law;-Banking, Capital Markets
3. Advise on compliance with the requirements of the Corporate Affairs Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the listing requirements of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX) and other relevant industry specific regulatory requirements;
4. Certify or obtain certification of compliance with all statutory requirements by the issuer and other parties to a transaction;
5. Make all statutory filings and provide confirmations (legal opinion) as to the enforceability and effectiveness of transaction documents;
6. File necessary applications in Court in support of transactions.
7. Any other roles ancillary to any of the above.
8. Assist clients on complex advisory mandates/finance transactions;
9. Drafting creatively, clearly and accurately and negotiating finance documentation, demonstrating familiarity with the latest trends, precedents and market standards;
10. Research, due diligence and information management;
11. Communicating and negotiating on behalf of client, leading where appropriate;
12. Taking initial instructions internally or externally, delegating where appropriate.

Client Relationship Management
1. Taking a lead role in advising clients;
2. Demonstrating thorough market knowledge to identify current trends and concerns in relevant industry sectors;
3. Able to present ideas to clients to resolve current market issues and anticipate potential problems;
4. Building rapport and establishing credibility with the client;
5. Continually seeking to improve the level of service to the client.

Management
1. Supervising team and demonstrating control (particularly of documentation) through effective delegation;
2. Debriefing at the end of a matter or at other appropriate stages;
3. Co-ordinating, coaching and monitoring the work of others to facilitate achievement of objectives;
4. Managing meetings effectively by setting clear objectives and agendas and encouraging other’s participation;
5. Demonstrating judgment in giving instructions to junior lawyers and managing their work;
6. Reviewing performance of junior lawyers against individual plans and acting when necessary to progress. Delivering difficult messages constructively and positively;
7. Developing and participating in group projects and initiatives including marketing and know-how projects.

Business Development
1. Networking with clients to capitalise on new business opportunities;
2. Contribute to quality know-how and transaction bibles and their upkeep;
3. Keeping up-to-date with client industry developments and their implications;
4. Contributing to business planning – demonstrating awareness of the Firm’s strategic direction;
5. Contributing to and providing leadership for client pitches and client origination;
6. Networking with more senior client contacts, maximising potential of each contact.
7. Quickly establish constructive and collaborative working relationships;
8. Make yourself available, acting as a sounding board for colleagues, calling out inappropriate behaviour and facilitating flow of communication between team and other parts of the firm;
9. Communicate effectively, adapt communication style in recognition of diverse working styles and different pressure points;
10. Energy and commitment, with a flexible and proactive approach;
11. Appreciative of the culturally diverse environment in which the Firm operates.

Knowledge & Learning
1. Deliver practice specific training to develop junior associates;
2. Regularly giving and seeking clear performance feedback to/from others;
3. Contribute to the development of necessary precedents and know-how, and share knowledge and learning with others;
4. Involving junior staff in different types of work to cascade learning and broaden experience;
5. Playing a role in the induction of junior staff;
6. Interviewing potential trainees.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
COMPETENCIES
1. Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and BL; 2:2 and above is required (Masters of Laws (L.L.M) is an added advantage)
2. Must have at least 6-9 years of post NYSC Financial Markets experience.
3. Excellent interpersonal, communication and public speaking skills; You will have a range of experience and a keen interest in non-contentious regulatory matters, capital markets, banking and/or other finance-related law.
