NATURE AND SCOPE OF ROLE
1. The role of the position holder will be to provide back office operations support as well as middle office interactions in the processing/structuring of trade financing instruments including Letters of Credit, Bills for Collection and Guarantees.
2. The job holder will ensure prompt services to customers in line with the Bank’s Banking Operations policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide professional input into the organization of a sound “documentary credit unit” to support the Bank’s activities which will include but will not be restricted to the following components:
2. Handling all forms of Letters of Credit including the issuance, confirming, advising, negotiating and amending;
3. Handling documentary collections including incoming and outgoing collections and remittances as well as acceptances and avalisations;
4. Issuing, amending, and liquidating all types of letters of guarantee (bid bond; performance; payment; standby and counter guarantees);
5. Examination of documents/other claims presented under letters of credit and other trade instrument to determine their compliance to the terms and conditions set out in the instrument;
6. Ensure relevant entries are passed including all the contingent liability entries, and monitor all the relevant GLs to ensure they reflect the correct information;
7. Understand the dynamics of clean payments under trade finance, and able to support this function as and when required; and
8. Helping in the management of correspondent banking relations to ensure good customer service
9. Coordinating and reconciling customer accounting system with the general ledger in Finance Department
10. Preparing accurate accounting and other reports for the information of Management.
11. Liaising with customers through the front office functions; and
12. Any other duties as may be assigned by Senior Management
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
QUALIFICATION AND SKILL
1. Bachelor’s degree and/or post graduate degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance or related subject from a recognized University. A professional qualification like Certified Documentary Credit Specialist (CDCS) or other relevant qualification is an added advantage, and if backed up by appropriate Banking experience may be considered in lieu of a post graduate degree;
2. Sound experience of at least 5 years with a reputable Banking organization, of which at least 3 years has been in the Trade Services operations area;
3. Good knowledge of SWIFT application and the relevant message types applicable to Trade Services;
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French. Knowledge of the Bank’s other working languages is an added advantage (Arabic and Portuguese);
5. Good team spirit and ability to function effectively in a documentary credits segment in a fairly complex banking environment. Willingness and ability to work extra hours when necessary to meet tight deadlines;
6. The candidate must demonstrate experience and knowledge of managing back office operations in a fairly complex banking, and change oriented environment and show a good understanding of UCP 600; URC 522; URR 725; URDG 758; and ISP 98 and other relevant rules; and
7. Ability to operate in a culturally diverse and change oriented setting;
8. Liaises with customers daily and coordinates with counterparts across Afreximbank as necessary, acting as a first point of contact for routine queries;
9. A good understanding of systems, policies, procedures and industry best practice;
10. Mentors, motivates and coordinates junior resources in own area, including providing technical guidance and supervising their daily activities.
