PURPOSE OF THE JOB
1. Reporting to the VP and COO, this position is responsible for the origination and implementation of operations of New Development Bank (“NDB” or the “Bank”) in India (and other countries in the region as determined by VP and COO), and for providing the primary strategic and operational interface between the NDB Headquarters and its clients in India (and other countries in the region as determined by VP and COO) in alignment with the Bank’s strategy. Apart from the responsibility to lead the Bank’s efforts in regional cooperation, the primary responsibilities of the Director General, Indian Regional Office (“DG, IRO”) include: (i) project identification and pipeline development; (ii) project preparation; (iii) project implementation and monitoring; and (iv) regional portfolio management.
2. The DG, IRO will work in close coordination with the NDB Headquarters’ team responsible for the operations in the region and will support the NDB Headquarters in other functions including external relations and stakeholder management.
3. The DG, IRO will be based in Gandhinagar (Ahmedabad), India; and will be in charge of the office of the IRO in Gandhinagar (Ahmedabad), India.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:
1. Lead and be accountable for business development, project origination (including initial project preparation and technical assistance), and project selection in India and other countries as determined by VP and COO, in close coordination with the departments under the Vice Presidency of Operations (“OPS”).
2. Build and deepen the Bank’s relationships and partnerships with stakeholders in India and other countries as determined by VP and COO.
3. Manage client relations and identify potential partnerships. Report to the Management regularly on the progress and updates on regional partnerships.
4. Establish strong and clear rationales and criteria of project origination and selection, incorporating past operational experiences, the region’s macro and sector developments, and Bank-wide knowledge.
5. Engage with different stakeholders and potential clients to develop a working pipeline of projects, under the supervision and guidance of the VP and COO.
6. Report regularly to the OPS Management the pipeline for India and other countries as determined by VP and COO.
7. Lead the development of Country Partnership Plans, supported by other OPS departments and in closer collaboration with other organizational units of the Bank
8. Work closely with Public Sector Department and Private Sector and Non-Sovereign Transactions Department, including supporting project appraisal and efficient transition from project processing to implementation stage.
9. Lead and supervise implementation of projects in India and other countries as determined by VP and COO to ensure high quality of project portfolio in close coordination with the NDB Headquarters.
10. Support and collaborate with the ESG Department in monitoring environmental, social, procurement and governance related aspects in the implementation stage of projects and in the dialogue with civil society organizations.
11. Conduct periodic portfolio reviews in coordination with governments, related agencies and clients from public and private sectors to resolve issues interrupting efficient project implementation.
12. Keep abreast of and report on the developments and trends in the member countries and in the region including economic, political, sector-specific, thematic issues etc.
13. Efficient management of financial, infrastructure and human resources in the IRO to deliver the mandate of the regional office in close coordination with the NDB Headquarters.
14. Provide support, when necessary and based on the IRO’s capacity, to the operations in NDB Headquarters and in other areas of Bank’s business.
15. Nurture talent and coach the team to ensure on-going learning and development of the team.
16. Other duties and responsibilities assigned by VP and COO from time to time.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience, culminating in a leadership role and position of influence, in the Government, international investment financial institution or regulated large private/public sector financial institution or multilateral development bank or regional development financial institution or state-owned enterprises (SOEs) or infrastructure consulting firms/contractors.
2. Leadership position in government or other relevant institutions with exposure to multilateral development banks and their functioning and knowledge of project financing in infrastructure and sustainable development sectors.
3. Proven experience in supporting development of projects in the sectoral and regional programs in the infrastructure sector.
4. Strong leadership and managerial skills in managing a diverse workforce.
5. Exceptional strategic thinking, leading change, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills with high resilience and drive in achieving objectives and goals.
6. Relevant experience in a multi-cultural work environment fostering a climate of teamwork and collaboration.
7. Master’s Degree or equivalent in a relevant field from a reputed university.
