OVERVIEW The New Development Bank (“NDB”) provides opportunities to qualified and motivated young professionals to develop their professional skills and expertise in a dynamic multicultural environment, and is inviting applications for the positions of Young Professional and Junior Professional, which are the entry-level positions for professional staff.
Based on the business needs of NDB, as well as the assessment on the competencies of the highly qualified and motivated candidates, the successful candidates will be assigned to a specific Department/Division of NDB, and the grade will be determined at the end of the recruitment process. Young Professionals and Junior Professionals are full-time regular staff and will have a four-year employment contract with NDB. PURPOSE OF THE JOB 1. Reporting to the Director General and Legal Counsel of the New Development Bank (NDB or the Bank) Junior Professionals / Young Professionals are expected to make significant contributions towards the Legal Department’s work while gaining a broad overview of the NDBs policies, procedures and operations. 2. Under the leadership and guidance of the Director General and Legal Counsel and other experienced professionals in the Legal Department, who will be assigned as mentors, the Junior Professionals / Young Professionals in the Legal Department will multitask and undertake “stretch assignments” while gaining valuable on-the-job experience. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to: 1. Provide legal assistance on public sector and private sector/ non-sovereign guaranteed and treasury related transactions. 2. Provide assistance on legal matters in connection with the Bank’s Articles of Agreement, policies and procedures, institutional and administrative issues, privileges and immunities of the Bank and its staff as per agreements with the member countries, membership matters, human resources issues, information technology, intellectual property, governance matters etc. and supporting all aspects of the Bank’s legal compliance to ensure legal compliance with all applicable guidelines and standards. 3. Stay abreast of the legislative laws in member countries, as well as relevant international laws and anticipate and assess legal risks associated with the activities of the Bank and provide inputs to the Director General and relevant teams and management to mitigate legal risks. 4. Conduct due diligence and prepare reports/legal documents to support the Director General in defending the Bank for any legal issues/disputes in national and international courts, arbitration or other legal proceedings. 5. Provide research, gather factual information on legal issues and prepare draft legal opinions. 6. Prepare memoranda, drafts of legal documents and resolutions, examine documents for legal sufficiency. 7. Take part in negotiations and draft documents for various Bank’s transactions which the Bank is to participate in. 8. Other duties and responsibilities assigned from time to time.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
1. For Young Professional: minimum of 3 years of relevant full-time professional experience (excludes summer/winter jobs, internship, traineeship, articleship, etc.) 2. For Junior Professionals: minimum 1 year of relevant full-time professional experience is preferred. Candidates with less than one-year full-time professional experience, and fresh graduates who have obtained the education degrees, as required by NDB, could also be considered. The relevant full-time professional experience excludes summer/winter jobs, internship, traineeship, articleship, etc. 3. Professional/Internship experience in legal issues in an international organization or regulated private/public sector financial institution or a large corporate enterprise or leading law firm. 4. Admission to practice law in at least one of the Bank’s member countries will be an added advantage. 5. Candidates must possess a desire to work in a multi-cultural environment, have an interest in the workings of a multilateral development bank including from an institutional and public policy perspective, as well as an understanding of the legalities of financing transactions. 6. Excellent research and analytical skills as well as proven written and oral communication skills in English. 7. Exceptional strategic thinking, resourcefulness, problem solving, communication, conflict management and resolution and interpersonal skills with high resilience and drive in achieving objectives and goals. 8. Master’s Degree or equivalent in Law from a reputed university.
