BACKGROUND INFORMATION Job Title: Data Scientist [Kigali] Current Grade: JG 6 Department: Information Technology & Digital Innovation Department/ Section/Unit: Digital Innovation Reports to: IT Digital Innovation Manager Direct Reports: N/A Indirect Reports: N/A Contract Terms – Open Ended
PURPOSE OF THE JOB The purpose of the job is to help corporate executives, business managers, and other operational workers make better and more informed business decisions using IT technics, methodologies, and technology.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB 1. Use business analytics, data mining, data visualization, and data tools to help organizations make better data-driven decisions. 2. Translate business needs in terms of data to technical specifications 3. Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging company data to drive business solutions. 4. Design, build and deploy BI solutions (e.g. reporting tools) 5. Implement, Maintain and support data analytics platforms (e.g. MicroStrategy) 6. Create tools to store data (e.g. OLAP cubes) 7. Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting 8. Evaluate and improve existing BI systems 9. Collaborate with teams to integrate systems 10. Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques. 11. Develop and execute database queries and conduct analyses 12. Create visualizations and reports for requested projects 13. Develop and update technical documentation 14. Develop relationships with key Business decision makers and data users within the business to provide continual service and support of organizational data and information reporting. 15. Developing new capabilities for clients beyond static reports and spreadsheets, taking their data and bringing it to life 16. Vigilance of data quality for key business measures and upkeep of business master data to ensure availability and integrity 17. Undertake data processing and information reporting improvements projects 18. Provide administration and improvements of the corporations Databases and Data stores
Performance indicators 1. Coordinate BI projects, solutions and change requests 2. Availability of data from all system into a centralized repository 3. Optimal reporting, improving the reports availability timeframe 4. Timely and effective implementation of Datawarehouse and data analytics tools 5. Document automated scripts and reporting procedures 6. Timely and 100% resolution of user complaints
Working relationships 1. Executives and Heads of departments 2. Senior and Middle Managers 3. Software Developers 4. System and Database administrators 5. External stakeholders

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
PROFESSIONAL, ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology/ or related field 2. Professional certification in Data Science, Business Intelligence, or any related field 3. Experience in working with and creating data architectures 4. Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on complex data visualization. 5. Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets. 6. A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
Core competencies 1. Proven experience as a BI Developer or Data Scientist 2. Industry experience is preferred 3. Background in data warehouse design (e.g., dimensional modeling) and data mining 4. In-depth understanding of database management systems, online analytical processing (OLAP) and ETL (Extract, transform, load) framework 5. Familiarity with BI technologies (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Oracle BI and other related tools) 6. Knowledge of SQL queries, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) 7. Proven abilities to take initiative and be innovative 8. Analytical mind with a problem-solving aptitude 9. BSc/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
