JOB DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the Senior Strategist role is to facilitate the development and implementation of the DBSA strategy, corporate plan including the balanced scorecard and divisional plans in line with the organisations vision and goals.

In collaboration with the Head: Corporate Strategy:
1. Develop long-term strategic plans (5/10/15 years) and objectives through the identification of strategic issues and opportunities that could influence business growth, profitability and development impact.
2. Liaise with relevant stakeholders to set the short, medium and long term strategies of the DBSA as per its mandate and strategic direction.
3. Obtain and evaluate information about industry and market trends, competitive threats and possible business opportunities to inform strategy/ies.
4. Perform competitor benchmarking, collate industry intelligence, customer knowledge and the development of strategic initiatives.
5. Develop / align / refine the DBSA Shareholder Compact, Strategy, Corporate Plan and Corporate Balanced Scorecard in line with the organisational mandate and goals.
6. Develop content and agenda for the management and board strategic planning sessions and ensure that strategic issues are surfaced and deliberated on.
7. Test ideas that are put forward by DBSA leadership team, employees and other key stakeholders. These amongst others may include decisions about entering new markets, developing products, innovative solutions, etc.
8. Enable and facilitate the development of Divisional Operational Plans and Divisional Scorecards that are aligned to the Corporate Plan and Balanced Score Card (BSC) and facilitate their review at Exco.
9. Lead one or multiple strategic initiatives / projects and leverage cross-functional teams to achieve the required mandate.
10. Identify and source benchmarks, leading practices and critical data/insights required for effective strategy formulation and planning.
11. Prepare and submit Corporate Performance reports to provide stakeholders (internal and external) with progress against deliverables.
12. Monitor and report on the delivery of the BSC and strategy for Exco, Board, National Treasury and other key stakeholders within the stipulated time-frames.
13. Prepare presentations and relevant reports for Exco, the Board, Board Sub-committees and the Shareholder in respect of the overall strategy and planning for review or approval.
14. Facilitate and compile sections of the DBSA Integrated Annual Report.
15. Provide strategic advice to Executives and Management in respect of execution of the BSC and progress on strategic initiatives.
16. Evaluate the performance of the DBSA and Divisions based on the agreed BSC’s.
17. Co-ordinate the Audit process (external and internal) in respect of corporate and divisional performances.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
Minimum Requirements
1. A post graduate degree with economics, finance, and strategic management are preferred. Any other relevant honours degree will be considered.
2. At least seven to ten year’s work experience within a strategy role/function.
3. Strong and proven foundation in economics and/or accounting/finance including financial budgeting and forecasting.
4. Understanding and exposure to Balanced Scorecard configuration and reviews, strategic project management and strategy planning.
5. Familiar with Companies Act, PFMA, King IV, etc.

Desirable Requirements
Exposure to development finance or wholesale banking in a similar role would be advantageous.
