ABOUT
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa based international research institute committed to conducting high quality and policy relevant multidisciplinary research. Our research addresses important development issues and challenges facing sub-Saharan Africa in areas such as education, population, health, aging, urbanization and wellbeing. Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action, engage with policy makers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions, and improve the quality of life in Africa.

PURPOSE OF ROLE
1. The APHRC seeks to recruit two Temporary Laboratory Technologists to support work in the Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases Unit, for the Kenya Multi-Site Integrated Serosurveillance of COVID-19 and other pathogens (KEMIS) project.
2. The goal of the project is to develop a pathway towards establishing an integrated, nationally representative, population-based serosurveillance program in Kenya while continuing to conduct SARS-CoV-2 serosurveillance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Recruiting, preparing study participants and collecting specimen from study participants including children.
2. Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms/specimens.
3. Labelling and registering specimens.
4. Processing specimen according to specified standard operating procedures (SOP).
5. Storing blood products according to standard requirements including cold chain maintenance.
6. Observing laboratory safety procedures.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. A degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technician and Technologists Board (KMLLTB).
2. Registration certificate and a valid practicing license issued by the KMLTTB.
3. Proven experience drawing paediatric blood samples.
4. Proficiency in Microsoft office suite e.g. Ms Word, Excel.
5. Excellent communication, interpersonal and report writing skills.
