JOB ADVERT SUMMARY
The Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa (Land Bank) is South Africa’s only specialist agricultural bank established in 1912, the bank’s sole objective is to serve South African commercial and emerging farmers and bring specially designed financial services within their reach. These services enable farmers to finance land, equipment, improve assets and obtain production credit. The Land Bank provides financial services that have moved with the times and continues to provide services to agri-business and constantly reviews its offerings to ensure that they match the needs of an industry. As change has swept across the sector in South Africa the socio-economic makeup of agriculture has altered, bringing new entrants from historically disadvantaged backgrounds on to the land, these new farmers, facing the challenges of establishing sustainable agri-businesses across the agricultural value chain, Land Bank has been a commercial lifeline offering appropriately designed financial products that facilitate personal and commercial viability in a sector that is vital to the sustainability of South Africa and its people.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
1. To manage innovative financial solutions for growth in the development finance business in focussed Land Bank markets and segments and lead the implementation of deliverables aligned to the overall Commercial and Development strategy and ensure that the Bank achieves the agreed objectives.
2. To build positive returns for investments in emerging commercial development programmes or projects; i.e. economic and financial returns and impact.
3. To increase inclusivity of historically disadvantaged emerging commercial farmers for increased contribution of the Bank toward economic impact.
4. To establish and maintain effective partner and stakeholder relations to leverage support and enable the implementation of the customer value proposition.
5. To manage the Structured Finance Development function and provide leadership in order to ensure that the key objectives are met; adopt and optimise a best fit operational model with the appropriate governance and risk framework and controls and ensure alignment with the Bank's guidelines, policies legislation.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Operational Strategic Alignment
1. Develop and execute the strategy of the Structured Finance team aligned to the Bank's Development strategy.
2. Develop and successfully implement the operational plan
3. Design and structure innovative financing solutions for transformational and development programmes and partnerships, including potential Special Purpose Vehicles, Joint Ventures, etc.

Business Development and Stakeholder Management
1. Stay abreast with Agri Development initiatives and industry transformation to further strengthen key stakeholder relationships to evaluate business opportunities to promote long term mutually beneficial relationships.
2. Create awareness for all stakeholders as to the value of the Land Bank’s products and investment strategy and the processes and principles related to agricultural financing within the Land Bank environment.

Portfolio Management
1. Actively manage individual Client Portfolio to ensure sustainability and growth for Structured Investments
2. Oversee negotiations with potential partners and lead transactors of funders/sponsors to address emerging farmers/end users of financing facilities.
3. Identify, pursue and initiate structured investment opportunities to cultivate the development market within the Agri Sector and ensure alignment to the Strategic Pillars (Sector Growth, Supply Chain Development, Production Expansion and intensification, Agri Innovation).

Risk Management
1. Act as first point of contact for audit, risk, compliance and business continuity and control environment.
2. Ensure compliance to guidelines, policies and objectives.
3. Make the necessary procedure amendments in line with changes to bank wide policy.
4. Ensure the alignment of the Delegation of Powers with the necessary procedure amendments.

Transaction Execution
1. Conduct high level transaction screening to assess project viability and sustainabilityOversee financial and valuation models (detailed analysis) to determine the anticipated performance of the projects and, or transaction/s – in order to establish desired / likely outcome.
2. Develop innovative and multifaceted (debt and equity) financing options including Equity Financing and Risk Transferring Structures such as Special Purpose Vehicles to provide innovative funding solutions.
3. Structure projects and, or transaction/s for optimal funding solutions, taking into consideration the economic viability, legal facets, applicable regulations and the mandate of the Bank, specifically with the objective of growing equity investment and the development market.

Drive the Development Mandate
1. Source business relevant research to support Structured Investment Finances focus on the Transformational and Developmental mandate
2. Reviews portfolio and clients business and provide solutions to drive employment creation, transformation, inclusivity
3. Support the growth of the sector through focused investments with the aim of increasing the growth of the business

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
PREFERRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. Post graduate qualification i.e. B-Degree (Hons) in either Finance, Economics, Business Management, Agriculture and, or Development Finance.
2. 10 years Identifying, negotiating and concluding multifaceted Structured Finance / Project Finance and Equity transactions.
3. 5-8 years Structuring bespoke solutions and advisory services of complex financing structures and transactions, which typically involve structured loans, equity and interest derivative components.
4. 5-8 years Relationship development and management of key stakeholders (internal and external) including legal, advisory and funding partners.
5. 3-5 years Dynamic team leadership, either at Team Lead Level or Middle Management and proven mentoring initiatives.
