ABOUT ICARDA
The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is a treaty-based international non-profit research organization supported by CGIAR.
ICARDA’s mission is to reduce poverty, enhance food, water, and nutritional security, as well as environmental health in the face of global challenges including climate change. We do this through innovative science, strategic partnerships, linking research to development and capacity development that take into account gender equality and the role of youth in transforming the dry areas. ICARDA works in partnership with governments, universities, civil society, national agricultural research organization, other CGIAR Research Centers, and the private sector. All CGIAR Centers are currently engaged into a reform process (“One CGIAR’”) that will help ICARDA and CGIAR achieve better impact through more strategically integrated research, unified governance, an integrated structure and new research modalities across participating Research Centers. This transformation is supported by CGIAR donors who have committed to increased funding as a result of these reforms.

DESCRIPTION
MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
1. The International Center for Agriculture Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) invites applications for an eleven-months research fellowship data augmentation.
2. The fellowship aims to promote a better understanding of existing activities at CGIAR, provide assistance to young researchers specializing in fields relevant to digital and data activities and offers an exceptional first employment experience to young graduates while supporting the implementation of the project’s activities.
3. He/she reports to the Research Software Development (RSD) Coordinator within the Monitoring and Evaluation Team. As part of RSD Team, he/she will liaise with the concerned activity scientists.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Acquire knowledge on ontologies and develop one related to M&E terms with primary focus on those used in Theory of Change.
2. Observe and document user experience related to the deployment of existing digital tools and suggest action for improvement
3. Collect / curate data related to change in user behavior following deployment of new features in digital tools.
4. Develop blogs or social media messages to promote the digital activities conducted during the fellowship.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
1. Master’s degree in relevant field with demonstrated interest in the field.
2. Up to 3 years’ relevant experience.
3. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
4. Strong computer skills and very good skills in using MS Office
5. Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
6. Knowledge of or experience working on international development issues, especially in areas related to ICARDA’s mandate.

Desirable qualifications and competencies
Knowledge of French, Arabic and/or Russian

This is an eleven-months’ research fellowship (February – December 2023) carried out remotely and home-based; closeness or willingness to locate at ICARDA offices are optional and would be an advantage. ICARDA will provide a monthly stipend.
