MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
Providing support for research activities within the Soil, Water, and Agronomy (SWA) Team in Egypt.

ABOUT ICARDA
The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is a treaty-based international non-profit research organization supported by CGIAR. ICARDA’s mission is to reduce poverty, enhance food, water, and nutritional security, as well as environmental health in the face of global challenges including climate change. We do this through innovative science, strategic partnerships, linking research to development and capacity development that take into account gender equality and the role of youth in transforming the dry areas. ICARDA works in partnership with governments, universities, civil society, national agricultural research organization, other CGIAR Research Centers, and the private sector. All CGIAR Centers are currently engaged into a reform process (“One CGIAR’”) that will help ICARDA and CGIAR achieve better impact through more strategically integrated research, unified governance, an integrated structure, and new research modalities across participating Research Centers. This transformation is supported by CGIAR donors who have committed to increased funding as a result of these reforms.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist in providing technical backstopping to SWA teams research activities mainly in Egypt but also at times in other mandate countries, and coordinate field trials with national partners.
2. Assist with various aspects of project implementation, including, but not limited to, site characterization and preparation, data analysis and quality assurance, equipment installation and maintenance, training and other knowledge dissemination activities, and translation of technical material between English and Arabic.
3. Extensive travel to different field sites for data collection, troubleshooting scientific equipment and field tasks.
4. Logistical support for field visits, training, and dissemination events.
5. Contribute to the writing of technical reports, scientific papers, and other knowledge dissemination products.
6. At times, represent ICARDA in national meetings, workshops, conferences in Egypt and elsewhere, as requested.
7. Perform any other relevant tasks as requested by supervisor.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
1. Master’s degree in soil and water conservation, agricultural engineering, irrigation, or other related fields.
2. At least 3 years of experience with national or international research organization in conducting field research trials in agricultural land and water management, evapotranspiration measurement, on-farm irrigation management trials for improving crop water productivity
3. Working knowledge of Arabic and English languages.
4. Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and communication skills.
5. Capable and willing to work in a fast-paced and time sensitive environment, and able to adapt to unforeseen challenges and tasks that arise.
6. Able and willing to travel extensively within Egypt.
7. Holder of a valid Egyptian driver’s license.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
1. PhD degree in soil and water conservation, agricultural engineering, irrigation and drainage or other related fields.
2. Experience working in CGIAR centers or other international research institutions.
3. Record of having published research articles in ISI (International Scientific Indexing) ranked journals.

Benefits
This is a nationally recruited position for which ICARDA offers an attractive compensation package including a competitive salary, medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, five months’ maternity leave, 15 days’ paternity leave
The successful candidate will be offered an initial contract of 3 year, renewable subject to availability of fund, continuous need for the position and satisfactory performance. The first year will be a probationary period.
