JOB PURPOSE: The job holder will provide independent oversight of credit risk in the banks’ lending activities and is responsible for identification, measurement and reporting credit risk in the bank’s portfolio and lending process. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Develop methodologies for measurement of Credit risk 2. Develop and enhance the Credit risk Reporting & Monitoring framework 3. Support in enhancement and review of the Bank Credit risk Policies to ensure that these reflect the best practice 4. Contribute proactively to various risk related projects and initiatives owing to synergies (e.g. stress testing, IFRS 9 and ICAAP); especially on aspects pertaining to credit measurement and sourcing/ management of data for these initiatives 5. Review and suggest amendments to credit risk appetite, credit limits and target market allocation based on trends in the credit environment and industry and business objectives 6. Review and conduct stress testing and scenario analysis to identify improvements to policies and aid overall decision making and reporting 7. Independent review of credit modelling to ensure that they are operating as intended 8. Independently advise strategies to address changes in market conditions and/or trends to manage the Bank’s credit risk exposure and appetite 9. Review of the Credits department’s Risk and Control Self-assessment and all other departments involved in the lending processes including legal, business units, trade services and credit administration to ensure that risks are comprehensively identified and mitigated 10. Actively support efforts to identify credit risk related issues such as frauds and coordinate issues resolution management 11. Develop policies for counterparty risk management 12. Conduct periodic quality reviews on counterparty risk assessments 13. Conduct periodic reviews on early warning systems to ensure accuracy and adequacy 14. Conducting risk assessments on all new and existing lending products 15. Credit policy compliance spot checks, independent security, and portfolio reviews 16. Conduct regular reviews to verify the adequacy of credit recovery strategies 17. Monitoring of the credit risk appetite framework 18. Assessing and quantifying credit risk in the ICAAP process 19. Provide inputs to credit/ procedures reviews and process engagements 20. Conducting gaps assessments in the lending process 21. Coordinating the Environmental, Social and Governance matters within the Bank

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Required 1. Undergraduate degree – minimum upper 2nd class honors from an accredited University 2. Added advantage on the following disciplines: A master’s degree in Finance/Accounting, Economics, and risk management 3. Professional / Technical Qualifications / Diplomas: CPA or ACCA qualifications, or a certification in risk management 4. 5+ years working in risk management, credit risk management, or audit functions 5. Deep knowledge and understanding of credit risk management frameworks 6. Knowledge of the local legal and regulatory frameworks. 7. Good understanding of the lending process and practical experience in origination, underwriting and monitoring of small, average, and large credit tickets 8. Strong credit risk stress test methodologies including the capital allocation and computation of Capital adequacy ratios 9. Proficiency in Excel to maintain, improve and develop metrics and reporting tools 10. Comprehensive understanding of credit products including treasury and trade finance products 11. Good understanding of internal policies and procedures 12. Ability to work with all levels of management 13. Ability to write / revise policies and guidelines and maintain Risk Register 14. Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills 15. Excellent people management skills 16. Excellent research and analytical skills with attention to detail 17. Ability to establish priorities, plan, coordinate, and monitor own work plan 18. Strong quantitative, analytic, and problem-solving skills 19.
