JOB ADVERT SUMMARY
1. To provide legal advice, legal opinions and solutions to LBI business units.
2. To manage LBI legal risks.
3. To manage the legal recoveries process of outstanding crop insurance premiums and any other monies due and owing to LBI.
4. To ensure legal compliance as well as manage the external resources.
5. To draft and review LBI contracts.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Business Support and General Legal Advice
1. Custodian of legal agreements as applicable and responsible for developing and reviewing them from time to time to ensure legal compliance
2. Drafting of Legal Agreements and SLA’s
3. Assessment of impact of any new legislation and providing training to Legal and affected Business Units from time to time
4. Providing legal advice and opinions to Divisions
5. Legal research and legal due diligence investigations
6. Advising and providing a tailor made business solutions to problems
7. Generally ensure best possible legal solution to legal problems

Legal Recoveries
1. Responsible to manage legal recovery process
2. Acts on instruction from the business unit or LBI partner to commence with legal action
3. Collate and analyse all relevant information in relation to the outstanding monies received
4. Issue a Letter of Demand where applicable
5. Appoint external attorneys to proceed with Summons
6. Review Summons/pleadings and ensure that LBI’s claim is adequately dealt with in the court papers
7. Manage the recovery process as guided by the High Court and Magistrate Court Rules
8. Actively track progress on each matter and obtain monthly reporting from the external attorneys
9. Provide the Head of Legal with monthly reports on all recoveries

Resource Management
1. Management of assigned attorneys in terms of giving them instructions and subsequent communication as applicable
2. Manage delivery of outsourced work and monitor performance

Manage Stakeholder relationship
1. Proactive building of internal relationships with all business units
2. Understanding operational business needs
3. Providing business solutions in area of expertise
4. Understanding internal client’s areas of operation
5. Proactively building relationships with attorneys/advocates
6. Good working relationship with team

Contract Drafting and Vetting
1. Receive requests for the drafting of Contracts
2. Assess and discuss requirements with the client and draft initial contracts
3. Review inputs and amend according to comments received
4. Prepare execution versions of the contract, together with contract management sheets, acquire internal signatories and submit for external signatures
5. Retain electronic copies of contract management sheets
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
PREFERRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. 4 year LLB Degree or equivalent
2. Admitted Attorney having served articles of clerkship
3. 3 years Post admission experience
