JOB ADVERT SUMMARY
The Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa (Land Bank) is South Africa’s only specialist agricultural bank established in 1912, the bank’s sole objective is to serve South African commercial and emerging farmers and bring specially designed financial services within their reach. As change has swept across the sector in South Africa the socio-economic makeup of agriculture has altered, bringing new entrants from historically disadvantaged backgrounds on to the land, these new farmers, facing the challenges of establishing sustainable agri-businesses across the agricultural value chain, Land Bank has been a commercial lifeline offering appropriately designed financial products that facilitate personal and commercial viability in a sector that is vital to the sustainability of South Africa and its people.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
1. To provide a comprehensive labour relations services to the Land Bank Group as it relates to the legislation governing labour matters in the workplace.
2. To maintain sound and good faith relationships between management and employees and stakeholders including organised labour.
3. To support and represent the Land Bank Group at external platforms including the CCMA, Arbitration Tribunals, etc.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Develop and implement an employee labour relations strategy, policies, processes and plans
1. Develop and implement an employee relations tactical plan aligned to the HC strategy.
2. Review Employee Relations policies, identify conflict or contradictions, recommends changes to the policy owner and ensures that policies are compliant to legislation and relevant to the business.
3. Develop processes to create awareness of all employee relations policies and procedures.
4. Develop and implement a communication plan on employee relations matters.
5. Advise and guide line managers in putting appropriate processes in place to address organisation’s staff related issues.

Lead the Land Bank Group projects related to employee relations
1. Define, scope and secure sign-off of projects plans.
2. Provide process and procedure documents related to Organisational/Divisional and Business Unit structural changes.
3. Engage organised labour as prescribed in legislation.
4. Engage the Executive Manager Human Capital and EXCO on progress, matters to be attended to and follow through on processes.
5. Report and provide manage with labour relations reports to provide management with assurance on matters to mitigate risks.

Build and maintain strategic relationships with stakeholders and organised labour
1. Establish and maintain productive operational relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
2. Maintain a balanced approach to the interests and expectations of all stakeholders.
3. Create a culture of ownership with line managers in respect of employee relations issues.
4. Create a culture of personal accountability and a spirit of teamwork amongst staff.
5. Implement initiatives to ensure optimum stakeholder alignment and synergy.
6. Support the GM HC Business Partner during collective bargaining process

Monitor and report manage internal and external Employee Relations trends
1. Scan the internal and external environment for relevant trends and developments that impact on the labour practices in the Bank.
2. Advise the business on interpretation and application of labour legislation.
3. Provide the business with packaged employee relations solutions to mitigate employee relations risk.
4. Conduct research and benchmarks on employee relations matters and conflict management.

Provide management reports to relevant forums
1. Keep an update database of all Employee Relations cases.
2. Provide monthly statistics and status report of Employee Relations cases to the General Manager: HC Business Partners.
3. Provide relevant reports for submission to EXCO, Board and any other required forums.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
PREFERRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1. LLB Degree with specialisation in Labour Law
2. Admission as an Attorney/Advocate
3. 5 years’ experience in having practiced as an Labour Relations Lawyer
