JOB PROFILE
The Accountant is responsible for maintaining the Fund’s general ledger accounts, all in accordance with the institutional procedures and accounting framework, to ensure all financial transactions are reconciled and posted, in conformity with applicable accounting principles and financial reporting standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting
1. Maintains the OPEC Fund’s accounting records and balances of general ledger accounts in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other accounting principles.
2. Supports the internal and external audit processes.
3. Identifies improvement opportunities and resolve emerging issues in all areas of accounting, reporting, internal controls and compensation.

Reporting
1. Ensures uniformity and consistency in recording and reporting transactions.
2. Prepares schedules, analysis, summaries and reports in support of the quarterly financial reports and as may be requested on an ad-hoc basis
3. Coordinates the reconciliation of general ledger balances for financial reporting purposes, specifically to the assigned area and liaise with other internal counterparties and stakeholders.
4. Reviews and updates the accounting systems manual and participate in the implementation of enhancement to existing and/or new IT financial systems.

Monitoring and review
Monitors financial postings and compliance, using as a reference the approved manuals, procedures and guidelines of the accounting framework.

Recommendations
1. Formulates solutions and recommendations, and provide central direction and control over complex theoretical and practical accounting, tax and compensation matters not covered by standard practice or precedent.
2. Initiates evaluation studies and analysis, and provides Management with recommended solutions.

Stakeholder management and engagement
1. Works together with the Senior Accountant and other staff in the Accounting Function as well as with other areas responsible for maintaining financial system sub-ledgers.
2. Prioritizes the work to ensure the achievement of reporting objectives in a timely, accurate and efficient manner.
3. Carries out other tasks assigned by the Senior Accountant or the Director, Financial Controls that are related to the job function.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
1. Master’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Control, majoring in Accounting, Financial Management or a related field.
2. Recognized accounting certification such as ACCA or CPA.
3. A minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience, preferably 2-3 years of which should have been in an international environment and/or international financial institution.
4. Fluency in English. A good working knowledge of French, Arabic, German or Spanish is an advantage.

COMPETENCIES
1. Knowledge of financial accounting.
2. Experience in SAP
3. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Excel and other Microsoft Office programmes.
4. Demonstrate strong analytical and problem solving skills.
5. Ability to work independently, as well as with team members, in a collaborative environment.
6. Ability to define priorities and set targets.
7. Sound analytical skills.
8. Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and analytical skills with a high level of integrity and drive for achieving results.
9. Demonstrable ability to work in an international multi-cultural environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
