JOB ROLE: 1. The purpose of the role is to support and maintain AVCA reputation for excellence in research. Contribution to excellence in research will be at the level of a skilled researcher demonstrating a high level of competence and an independent standing in research. 2. The Research Associates need several technical skills to succeed in this role. 3. The role requires a strong technical writing skill, a good experience of market/industry research techniques, the ability to gather data - build - and maintain databases, and a good understanding of private markets and private capital industry specifically. 4. The role holder will participate in the overall contribution (individual or collaborative) of the research business unit as appropriate. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. We are looking for a highly analytical problem solvers with a financial or economist background for the position of Research Associate. 2. The Research Associate will be responsible for conducting research projects, analysing industry trends and writing reports that informdecisions, and for supporting AVCA’s research team through other tasks. 3. S(he) will need to interpret data or findings in an actionable way and distil complex economic data to technical and non-technical audiences, requiring excellent communicative ability. The Research Associate will be: 1) Conducting individual or collaborative research projects 2) Contributing to multiple research projects at once 3) Carrying out background research and literature reviews 4) Collecting and managing data, conducting surveys and interviews 5) Working with senior researchers to build and maintain databases 6) Identifying and analysing trends and forecasts 7) Writing technical and non-technical reports and/or briefs on industry trends 8) Automating tasks and data analyses using an appropriate social science analysis tool 9) Documenting research methodologies and procedures 10) Building relationships with AVCA’s members to facilitate AVCA’s data collection effort 11) Tracking industry news and research reports from primary and secondary sources 12) Performing other reasonably related job duties as assigned by the Head of research

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics or related field 2. Min 3 years professional market/industry research experience 3. High quality standards in both setting research methods and delivering research findings (written reports and presentations) 4. Outstanding writing skills 5. Strong data management skills (ability to manipulate large data sets into clean data sets, manageable and understandablereports, ability to maintain quality standards, ensuring the integrity of data) 6. Strong technical research skills (qualitative and quantitative) 7. Strong knowledge of private capital industry 8. Sound problem-solving skills 9. Attention to detail and excellent organizational/time-management skills 10. A good networker and written/verbal communicator 11. Able to build strong links with the rest of the research team and the other business units 12. Advanced Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint, Python, and/or statistical software skills 13. Fluency in English Desirable Skills 1. Strong interest in the development of the African private investment sector 2. Fluency in French as a second language
