JOB DETAILS Line Manager title: AfCFTA Secretary-General Grade: D1 Direct reports: Agriculture Lead Monitoring &Evaluation Expert Inclusion Lead (Women and Youth) Executive Assistant Department: AfCFTA – Private Sector Unit Location: Accra, Ghana
JOB SUMMARY 1. The Head of the Private Sector Unit (PSU) will provide overall strategic and managerial guidance as well as resource mobilization from partners to enable successful implementation of the AfCFTA Private Sector Engagement Plan. 2. She/He will also be the key relationship manager interfacing with senior management from public and private sector organizations on the delivery of interventions and identify opportunities to attain the objectives of the Engagement Plan. 3. She/he will also liaise with the regional economic communities and continental business councils on implementation of the AfCFTA private sector engagement plan. 4. The Head of PSU will report to the AfCFTA Secretary-General and work closely with the Directors of the AfCFTA Secretariat. She/He will lead the Private Sector Unit team including the Agriculture Lead, M&E Expert, Finance and Investment Expert, Value Chain Officers, and pool of Analysts. The Head of PSU will also lead the relationship with senior level officers from public and private partner organizations.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The role of the Head of PSU is three-fold: 1. Lead and manage the PSU for the delivery of priority interventions 2. Liaise with regional economic communities and continental business councils on implementation of the AfCFTA private sector engagement plan 3. Engage with key public and private stakeholders to mobilize implementation support; and 4. Communicate progress on the performance of the Unit and escalate relevant challenges affecting implementations to the Secretary-General for possible resolutions
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES The Head of PSU will perform the following duties and responsibilities: 1. Provide strong leadership to the PSU team, making timely decisions and when matters require interventions by higher levels within AfCFTA, ensuring timely escalation of matters for decision making. 2. Manage and strengthen relationships with senior public and private stakeholders 3. Ensure strategic coordination between the PSU, different directorate and programs of the AfCFTA Secretariat and other AU agencies. 4. Identify opportunities to expand partnerships, stakeholders and ensure engagement through thematic networks. 5. Ensure successful and timely delivery of the MCF funded programme. 6. Monitor performance progress against planned interventions and the delivery on the various value chains; and 7. Represent the PSU at relevant public and private sector forums

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS 1. Degree or Master’s degree in relevant fields (e.g., Management, Economics, Trade and Agriculture).
Work experience 1. For those with degree will possess plus twelve years’ relevant professional experience and those with postgraduate/Master degree will have plus ten years’ relevant professional experience preferably in the private sector development and supporting Regional Economic Communities private sector engagements. 2. Five years of leadership and management experience.
Technical skills and behavioural competencies 1. The ideal candidate fulfils the following requirements: 2. Proven track record of successfully leading a team to drive transformation and deliver implementation within time and budget constraints 3. Deep understanding of trade in Africa, including public and private sector dynamics 4. Experience in working on regional integration either in national or regional set-up 5. Ability to navigate AU systems and culture within the AU organizations while driving transformation.
In addition, all potential candidates should demonstrate the following core competencies: 1. Exceptional people leadership and interpersonal skills 2. Excellent problem-solving skills 3. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to drive negotiations 4. Demonstrated passion for the private sector 5. Exceptionally high level of motivation
