JOB DETAILS Line Manager title: Head of Private Sector Unit Grade: P5 Direct reports: Value Chain Officers Analysts Department: AfCFTA – Private Sector Unit Location: Accra, Ghana
JOB SUMMARY 1. The Agriculture Lead will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day tasks required to deliver interventions within the agriculture value chains. 2. In addition, s/he will be responsible for providing in-depth technical knowledge/subject matter expertise on the interventions under the value chains. 3. S/he will be the key contact for liaising with team members of the private sector stakeholders collaborating with the Secretariat to deliver the interventions. 4. The Agriculture Lead will also oversee building relationships with the value chain key stakeholders. The Agriculture Lead will report to the Head of Private Sector Unit and lead the Value Chain Officers. S/he will also lead the Senior Analysts and Analysts within the unit. 5. The Agriculture Lead will also own and lead the relationship with agriculture stakeholders from other public and private partner organizations.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Main Functions The role of the Agriculture Lead is fourfold: 1. Oversee implementation of priority interventions in agriculture value chains 2. Provide technical expertise and insights regarding the agriculture value chains 3. Support key public and private stakeholders in the delivery of other priority interventions 4. Own and lead engagement with the relevant private sector organizations SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Agriculture Lead will perform the following duties and responsibilities: 1. Provide in-depth knowledge/technical expertise to team members to guide intervention implementation 2. Build robust rapport with key staff in the public/private sector organizations to collaborate and reinforce accountability for specific intervention targets. 3. Engage with team members of private sector organizations to problem-solve challenges related to the delivery of interventions. 4. Drive intervention delivery and coach team members to improve quality and speed of execution. 5. Problem-solve with Senior Analysts to debottleneck intervention delivery and stakeholder engagement to ensure effective implementation. 6. Track and report interventions progress status/performance to the Head of Private Sector Unit . 7. Motivate the value chain Analysts by being a role-model in building positive working culture towards common goals. 8. Ensure that synergies with other value chains are exploited to increase impact.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Degree or Master’s degree in relevant fields (e.g., Management, Economics, Trade and Agriculture).
Work experience The ideal candidate fulfils the following requirements: 1. For those with Degree will possess plus twelve years’ relevant professional experience and those with postgraduate/Master degree will have plus ten years’ relevant professional experience preferably in the private sector development and supporting Regional Economic Communities private sector engagements. 2. Five years of leadership and management experience. 3. Proven track record of successfully driving transformation and/or operational priorities. 4. In-depth understanding of the agriculture value chain including main barriers to trade and production in Africa as well as the role of the private sector’s role within that value chain 5. Ability to navigate AU systems and culture within the AU organizations while driving transformation.
Technical skills and behavioural competencies In addition, all candidates should demonstrate the following core competencies: 1. Excellent problem-solving skills 2. Extensive knowledge of the agriculture and in-depth technical expertise 3. Good understanding of political and governance issues 4. Good project management skills 5. Stakeholder and people management skills 6. Proven ability to inspire, coach and develop others from different backgrounds 7. Mental toughness, resilience, and the ability to cope in demanding environments 8. An entrepreneurial, can-do attitude to overcome barriers and enact change
