JOB DESCRIPTION 1. Co-ordinate sectoral opportunities and the pursuit of industry plans across value chains. 2. Effective co-ordination of business development efforts in general and specifically co-ordination and prioritisation of efforts on the continent. 3. Drive the continuous implementation and development of the Business Development capability within IDC ensuring alignment with responsible investment policy and IDC strategy and mandate. 4. Provide leadership for IDC’s cohort of Business Development Managers. 5. The Business Development Managers will report directly to the respective Head of the business unit with dotted line to the Business Development Coordinator. 6. Proactively source and develop bankable transactions/deals and projects within the IDC priority value chains, segments and regions together with the Business Development Managers, Sector Heads, Project Development Leads, Regional Managers and Industry Planners. 7. Develop pipeline, together with the Business Development Managers, Sector Heads, Project Development Leads, Regional Managers and Industry Planners to increase economic impact from existing and new clients to achieve industry development goals and the IDC’s development and sustainability outcomes. 8. Align and implement various business development strategies and identify new markets for IDC to enter to achieve strategic objectives 9. Provide inputs into IDC sectoral/value chain strategies and product development.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Financial / Shareholder Returns 1. Monitor and optimise the profit and loss of the SBU 2. Maximise shareholder value in terms of industry development and development impact. 3. Development and management of the budget. 4. Ensure financial soundness of all decisions and in particular financial credibility and astuteness in transactions led by the team so as to drive IDC’s financial sustainability 5. Ensure developmental optimization of decisions led by the team
Internal / Operational Processes 1. Provide guidance to the Business Development Managers, Sector Heads, Project Development Leads, Regional Managers and Industry Planners by ensuring the development of business development plans aligned to IDC value chain priorities and evaluating and recommending enhancements to the business development plans and implementation strategies 2. Establish, build and maintain sound professional relationships with both internal and external stakeholders and business development managers, through regular engagement and communication. 3. Participation (in support to the Heads of the Business Units) in various HR processes e.g. talent management, transformation, succession planning and headcount planning to drive an effective people strategy for Business Development. 4. Adhere to reporting requirements by preparing and submitting applicable reports on the status of business development as required. 5. Originating investment opportunities based on strategic fit, developmental outcomes and economic viability. 9. Planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives/strategies aligned to IDC’s sector and value chain strategies. 10. Conduct detailed market assessment: identifying, researching, filtering and prioritizing of new market opportunities to improve deal sourcing 11. End to end oversight of the deal sourcing process, anticipating client needs and responding with innovative solutions to clients emerging needs and supporting in debottlenecking processes and establishing best practice client journeys. 12. Co-ordinate the business development activities of the IDC across sectors, value chains, clients and the continent. 13. Co-ordinate the participation and presentation of IDC at investment conferences and roundtable discussions. 14. Provide input into the sector development strategies and product development initiatives of the IDC toward the enhancement of an active deal pipeline. 15. Co-ordination and support of Client networking activities 16. Manage all risks within areas of responsibility and ensure compliance by following regulatory requirements and IDC’s internal policies. 17. Attending conferences, meetings and industry events to generate new business and to observe industry trends/opportunities. 18. Participate in Deal Development Forum to screen applications
Customer Focus & Stakeholder Management 1. Client relationship management 2. Work with Client Experience Management team to ensure client complaints are attended to timeously. 3. Gathering of feedback and taking corrective action on client queries to ensure satisfaction and retention. 4. Build relationships, networks and collaborate with internal and external key stakeholders and clients to position IDC as the 'go-to' funder for development financing opportunities and ensure that IDC’s product offering and expertise are used to the optimum. 5. Building influential and sustainable relationships with strategic partners to assist SBU in achieving strategic objectives. 6. Close liaison with the SBU’s deal-making, business development and specialist teams as well as Post-Investment teams to ensure alignment in client service. 7. IDC representation on Boards / Steering Committees 8. Participate in internal product, scheme or fund development, as required.
Learning, Leadership & People Growth 1. Contribute towards the IDC’s development of competencies and knowledge of industries. 2. Coaching and Mentoring of Business Development Managers
