DEPARTMENT/DIVISION UNIT: Corporate JOB CLASSIFICATION Professional Staff 2 LOCATION: Port Harcourt REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: • Functionally Reports To: Security Manager • Administratively Reports To: Security Manager WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: • Internal All Staff • External Clients and Community JOB OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE OF JOB 1. The Community Relations Officer (CRO) will be responsible for maintaining and improving relations between client and the local communities impacted by its operations. 2. This role is pivotal in creating a harmonious and cooperative relationship by addressing community concerns, facilitating open communication, and resolving conflicts. 3. Given client’s turbulent history with the communities, the CRO will play a key role in restoring trust, building partnerships, and ensuring the smooth execution of the company’s projects. JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES: Community Engagement & Communication: 1. Act as the main liaison between client and community leaders, ensuring timely and transparent communication on matters affecting the communities. 2. Establish regular meetings with community representatives to discuss ongoing and upcoming projects, and address community concerns. 3. Communicate client’s policies, community development plans, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to the communities in a clear and culturally appropriate manner. Conflict Prevention & Resolution: 1. Mediate disputes and address grievances between client and the communities, finding solutions that are agreeable to both parties. 2. Work proactively to prevent conflicts by identifying potential community issues early and addressing them before they escalate. 3. Implement and maintain systems for tracking and addressing complaints or concerns raised by the communities. Community Development Programs: 1. Assist in planning and coordinating CSR projects that align with both client’s goals and the communities’ needs. 2. Support the monitoring of these projects to ensure they are effectively contributing to community development and addressing any gaps or concerns. Regulatory & Legal Compliance: 1. Ensure client complies with relevant community engagement regulations and policies. 2. Keep the management team updated on community-related legal requirements and ensure adherence to these standards.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Education Qualification Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Public Relations, Community Development, or a related field.
Professional Qualification Certification in Public Relations or Community Relations or certifications from recognized bodies.
Experience 1. 5+ years of experience in community relations or similar roles, preferably in the oil & gas, engineering, or construction sectors. 2. Experience working in the Niger Delta or with communities in a highconflict environment is highly desirable. 3. Proficiency in local languages or dialects is an advantage. KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIREMENTS: Functional/Technical Cultural Awareness & Sensitivity 1. Deep understanding of the local culture, traditions, and social dynamics in Port Harcourt and the Niger Delta region. 2. Ability to communicate and engage effectively with community members and leaders, respecting local customs and power structures.
Conflict Resolution: 1. Strong conflict resolution skills, with experience in mediating disputes and managing tensions between companies and local communities. 2. Ability to de-escalate potentially volatile situations and negotiate mutually beneficial solutions.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills 1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences. 2 Strong listening skills and the ability to communicate with empathy and respect.
Collaboration & Teamwork 1. Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders, including community leaders, local authorities, and NGOs. 2. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and trust within the community.
Problem Solving & Decision Making 1. Proactive in identifying potential problems and working towards solutions that balance client’s objectives with community needs. 2. Capable of making sound decisions in sensitive or complex situations. Behavioural 1. Self-starter, results-driven and focused on delivery of quality deliverables on time and within budget. 2.
