MAIN JOB DESCRIPTION |
LEVEL: Associate 3 DEPARTMENT: Dispute Resolution REPORTS TO: Senior Associate and Partners in DR APPROVED BY: The Partners SUMMARY Provide legal services on all Dispute Resolution legal issues ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including the following. Other duties may be assigned) Technical Skills 1. Draft and review court processes, briefs and legal opinion. 2. Has sufficient research abilities and understanding of the Firm’s business to make confident decisions and/or present options. 3. Reviews documents prepared by Associate 1 & 2 to ensure the Firm's standard of quality is met 4. Demonstrates ability to obtain a wide range of information possible, from both formal and informal sources, especially information that is difficult to obtain 5. When drafting complex documents to address the details of a transaction, uses own judgment to select the appropriate precedent 6. Identifies procedures for enforcing an order or settlement and performs the enforcement in a timely manner 7. Possess adequate knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations required for the law suit 8. Court appearance in simple lawsuits alone or co-appearance in complex lawsuits with Senior Associates and Partners
Business Development & Management: 1. Active participation the NBA SBL Sub Committees 2. To actively participate in Practice Group business development 3. Attract additional business from new and existing clients 4. To be strategic, commercially aware and fully familiar with the Firm’s business strategy 5. Demonstrate thought leadership by speaking at the NBA SBL Committees, the NBA Lagos Bar, and moderating or speaking at a panel relevant to the Firm's Practice Professional Standard/Development: 1. To work and behave in a professional manner 2. To comply with procedures set out in the Firm’s Handbook and other relevant laws 3. Treat all information about the Firm and its client and their business as wholly confidential 4. Possesses deep knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations required 5. Read journals and attend courses as part of continuing professional development. Financial Management 1. Manage client billing and taking appropriate steps in accordance with internal policies and procedures. 2. Supervision of fee matter estimates and quotations sent out to clients 3. Maintain firm control of the Firm's budget and make use of all financial management information 4. Demonstrates a basic knowledge of financial accounting. 5. Reviews the accuracy and legitimacy of recorded financial transactions and related reports. Leadership Skills 1. Demonstrates the ability to have a clear view of the work in progress amongst members of the team. 2. Looks for opportunities to delegate tasks in a manner which encourages personal development 3. Provide appropriate constructive feedback to the team and peers to enable them to develop professionally 4. Adopt a coaching approach to enable team members learn effectively from their mistakes and deal with their challenges 5. Contribute to the management and development of junior staff 6. Ability to liaise with all levels of both legal and support staff to assist with the resolution of issues 7. Promote teamwork and develop strong relationships with team members 8. Demonstrates strong and confident ability to express oneself clearly and with assurance at all levels of seniority. Client Management Skills 1. Communicates complex legal issues in a simple term for clients; enabling them to make informed decisions in relation to their work 2. Communicates clearly to the client the risks and available options to make adjustments where necessary to their desired outcome 3. Conduct due diligence studies by assessing the legal position of client’s target companies 4. To advice client according to both local and international policies and procedures 5. Reviews documents prepared by Associates 1- 2 to ensure that all issues address the clients' demands

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED 1. 4 - 8 years post qualification with relevant experience and expertise in the chosen Practice Area 2. Master’s degree in chosen Practice Area will be an added advantage 3. Any other Professional Certification
