ABOUT The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to-policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa. In partnership with the Center for International Forest Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), the University of Nairobi (UoN), PELUM Kenya, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Oxford University, and Loughborough University— along with the county governments of Laikipia, Samburu, and Turkana and national government line ministries of health and climate change, among others, we will be undertaking a project titled: “Visibilizing Climate Change Impacts on Nutrition and Mental Health among Vulnerable Populations in East African Drylands” “(Visibilize4ClimateAction Project), funded by Wellcome.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Understand the research objectives of the study fully. 2. Participate in training for data collection activities. 3. Conduct household listing and household surveys on all recruited study participants while adhering to guidelines as spelled out in the research protocols. 4. Encouraging respondents to give comments on each question asked. 5. Ensuring appropriate record of data. 6. Report directly to the team leader/supervisor on challenges encountered in the field Follow ethical research practices and professionalism in the course of their duty. 7. Meet the team leader regularly to submit progress updates. 8. Responding to any queries from APHRC/CIFOR-ICRAF research team members—such as the Principal Investigator, Co-investigators, and Field Coordinator. 9. Be responsible for the safekeeping and care of any assigned project assets. 10. Maintain confidentiality of the information collected from respondents. 11. Participate in training for data collection activities. 12. Conduct Household Listing. 13. Identify households and recruit participants who meet the eligibility criteria to participate in the study. 14. Conduct quantitative data collection according to the assigned households while adhering to guidelines as spelled out in the research protocols. 15. Collecting quantitative data in assigned households. 16. Encouraging respondents to respond to all questions asked. 17. Ensuring accurate recording of data provided by respondents. 18. Taking anthropometric measurements of the primary caregiver and child/children below 5 years old in assigned households. 19. Complete, edit, and submit all assigned interviews for cross-checking and verification by the team leader daily.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
1. Minimum of KCSE “C” plain and or a degree or diploma in Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, Health, Human Nutrition or related fields. 2. Proven experience in quantitative data collection and electronic data capture (use of tablets) 3. Must be a resident of the study counties: Samburu County (specifically Samburu Central), Turkana County (specifically Turkana North and Kibish Sub County), and Laikipia County (specifically Laikipia West). 4. Language fluency (verbal and written). 5. Turkana County (English, Kiswahili and Turkana). 6. Samburu County (English, Kiswahili and Samburu). 7. Laikipia County (English, Kiswahili, Kikuyu, and Pokot). 8. Strong interpersonal skills. 9. Availability to work full-time on the project for the duration of the study. 10. Having worked with UON/CIFOR-ICRAFICRAF/APHRC research teams will be an added advantage.
