The Alliance Bioversity International & CIAT is part of the Global Research Partnership for a Food Secure Future (CGIAR), which is dedicated to transforming food, land and water systems in a climate crisis. The Alliance delivers research-based solutions that address the global crises of malnutrition, climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. The Alliance's Food Environment and Consumer Behavior team works between the farm gate and the consumers’ plate, with an emphasis on the food environment between the market and consumers. The Integrated Expert will develop and implement adapted scaling approaches to improve the availability and utilization of neglected and underutilized species (NUS) in schools and canteens as well as in the food environment. A particular focus of the work will be on the inclusion of youth in business models and the application of gender-transformative approaches to the provision and consumption of NUS. The regional focus of the work is in Eastern Africa.
YOUR TASKS WILL INVOLVE: 1. Conduct action research to scale up novel procurement models in canteens that enhance the consumption of NUS 2. Supervise and train staff on collaborative research approaches in food environment and consumer behavior 3. Publish research findings in scientific journals, position papers and blogs 4. Participate in national stakeholder workshops and technical working groups of CGIAR, GIZ and other networks 5. Contribute to fundraising for research and development projects

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE: 1. Academic degree, preferably a PhD, in Nutrition Sciences or other disciplines, such as Anthropology of Food, Agricultural Sociology, Geography, Development or Environmental Economics 2. Extensive working experience in research and development cooperation, especially with regards to science-practice interactions 3. At least 5 years of experience in research on food systems and sustainable diets in Africa 4. Experience in leadership, process facilitation and policy advice 5. Working knowledge of English, knoweldge in French is advantageous
