JOB DESCRIPTION

GIZ International Services (InS) is an integral division of GIZ. We offer the experience, the regional and technical know-how of GIZ in the global market and provide international clients with expertise in terms of economic and result-oriented services.
GIZ International Services is shortlisted for the EU-funded tender: “Technical Assistance for the development of eco-tourism in Malawi”.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to Malawi’s sustainable development of the ecotourism sector.
Its specific objectives are:
1. Specific Objective 1: Develop diversified and sustainable natural resource-based tourism products with and for rural communities, with a priority for women and youth,
2. Specific Objective 2: Institutions at national, district and local levels better manage natural and cultural resources for tourism,
3. Specific Objective 3: Promote Malawi as an ecotourism destination on domestic, regional and international markets.
YOUR TASKS
The Team Leader (TL) will be responsible for the overall coordination and quality assurance of the project.

YOUR PROFILE
Qualification and skills
1. Master’s degree in any of the following: tourism planning and management, sustainable tourism, ecotourism or tourism resource conservation and management, hospitality management, travel and tourism management, or a relevant, directly related discipline;
2. Fluent in English (at least C1 level; Language levels are defined for understanding, speaking and writing skills by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages available at https://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/en/resources/european-language-levels-cefr and should be demonstrated by certificates or by past relevant experience).
General professional experience
1. Must have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience working with government ministries or agencies, and with private sector organisations and companies, and with international partners in the context of development cooperation, in the tourism or natural resources management sectors.
2. Must have a minimum of five (5) years of experience as Team Leader.
3. Must have a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in programme management related to development cooperation (donor funded programmes aimed at contributing to the eradication of poverty, economic, social and sustainable development and environmental protection) in the tourism or natural resources management sectors.
4. Must have a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in providing technical assistance for public authorities or agencies in developing countries on tourism development policy, planning, management, preferably with a focus on ecotourism.
5. Previous experience managing EU funded projects is an asset.
Specific professional experience
1. Must have demonstrable experience in conducting research. I.e. provide a record of success in at least 3 research studies that briefly explain the purpose, methods, results, and implications of the study, as well as the challenges and limitations that were faced. Those with experience in tourism or ecotourism research will have an added advantage,
2. Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience implementing tourism and/or natural resource related projects benefiting local communities,
3. Must have experience in any of these areas and complementary to KE2: ecotourism standards and certification; or in tourism statistics.
4. Experience of working in Southern African Development Community (SADC) or East African Community (EAC) tourism destinations is an asset.
