JOB DESCRIPTION
The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a programme aimed at preventing violence and promoting peace in crisis zones and conflict regions. It aims to build a world in which conflicts are resolved without resorting to violence. Nine German peace and development organizations run the CPS together with local partners. CPS is funded by the German Government. In the Great Lakes Region, comprising the countries Rwanda, Burundi and the border region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the CPS focuses on empowering communities for a peaceful future using multiple approaches, including peace education, dialogue, conflict transformation, psychosocial support and trauma counselling, dealing with the past, and conflict-sensitive journalism. In particular, the CPS supports its local partners in their endeavour to strengthen local structures that are able to deal with conflicts in a non-violent way and to initiate and implement mediation, dialogue and peace education activities.

As a member of the GIZ Civil Peace Service Great Lakes team, the adviser will support a network of journalists in developing high-quality, conflict-sensitive journalism. In particular, the adviser will train and supervise a working group of journalists from the three countries of the intervention area. This group should regularly produce, publish, and air pieces featuring peace-related contents. These have a model function and focus on themes that are relevant to the different national contexts (i.e. stories about successfully solved conflicts) and the region. The CPS local partner organization where the adviser will be based is Ejo Youth Echo (EYE) with offices in Kigali.

Additionally, the adviser will support the GIZ CPS Great Lakes programme in the fields of communications and public relations, as well as reinforce networking and synergies among local CPS partners to prepare for a joint digital exchange platform for peace actors in the Great Lakes Region.

YOUR TASKS
1. Train, supervise and technically support a working group of journalists from the three countries of the intervention area
2. Conceptualize a training curriculum for peace journalists as well as organize and teach courses and on-the-job training modules in different locations
3. Support the CPS Great Lakes programme in the implementation of its communications concept
4. Identify needs of support to partner organisations with regard to external visibility, public relations and provide support based on their needs
5. Explore and advise the programme on the preparation of an interactive internet platform with peace-related content
