MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION
The consultant for Environmental Governance will be part of the IKI-project “Conservation of pollinator diversity for enhanced climate change resilience” (2017-2022) within ICARDA Biodiversity and Crop Improvement Program. This project shall integrate the Farming with Alternative Pollinators (FAP) approach in the MENA-region. This position will be leading the development an international stewardship for pollinator protecting agriculture (to be registered by ISEAL). After the establishment of the Stewardship Council, the position might be partly supporting the Council and partly the main project.

The successful candidates will have good knowledge and experience in environmental governance and in the development of a stewardship, including the establishment of a Stewardship Council.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The consultancy has two main areas responsibilities:
1) Contribute to all activities concerning the stewardship (objective 3 of the IKI- Pollinator Project) – the major component of the job (main focus during the first twelve months).
2) As may be required, contribute to activities concerning environmental governance within the IKI-pollinator project.
1) Contribute to the development of an international stewardship for pollinator protecting agriculture, including the establishment of a Stewardship Council; specific responsibility under this area include:
(a) Development of the standards
(b) Development of the business model for the new stewardship
(c) Organization of two consultation rounds, including developing the list of participants, the program of work and writing the minutes of the meetings
(d) Coordination of the process for the establishment of the Stewardship Council
(e) Development of the criteria for monitoring certification at all levels (farms, chain of custody, etc)
(f) Training certifiers (both for farms and chain of custody) and the trainers for farmers and salesmen trainings
(g) Establish contacts and working relations within the chain of custody
(h) Writing yearly reports
(i) In consultation with ICARDA Communication Unit, develop a web site for the stewardship.

2) Contribute to all matters concerning environmental governance within the IKIpollinator project, including
(a) Development of cross-sector policies for pollinator protection in collaboration with national partners, development of materials to promote FAP
(b) Development of pollinator-related ecotourism, project documentation. In the end of the project the employee should be capable to lead small FAP projects.

Any other relevant task requested by Project Coordinator.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential qualifications and experience
1. MSC in Environmental governance, ecology, environmental management, socioeconomics or other related discipline
2. At least three years of work experience within an international stewardship council or with a stakeholder in the development phase of an international stewardship
3. Subject matter knowledge of pollination and wild pollinators
4. Ability to work effectively in a highly interdisciplinary team
5. Ability to train different stakeholders
6. A strong collaborative approach to work and ability to interact effectively with a broad range of stakeholders
7. Strong organizational skills
8. Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to work effectively in a multi-cultural work environment
9. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
10. Knowledge of data management and statistical analysis with computer software
11. Valid driving license and readiness to obtain a Moroccan driving license
12. Willingness to travel within and outside Morocco

Desirable qualifications and experience
1. Working experience in North Africa
2. Experience in monitoring systems
3. Knowledge of French or Arabic

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT, SALARY AND BENEFITS
The consultancy is for a period of 18 months, after which the need will be re-assessed. For this international consultancy, in addition to the honorarium, ICARDA will pay a lump sum as a support for cost of living expenses.
