FIELD OF ACTIVITY GIZ is supporting the programme promoting Anti-trafficking implementation, co-funded by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (AA), through its Support Programme to the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). This programme (2019-2023) will focus on the implementation of Anti-trafficking measures in West Africa. The intervention targets are Criminal Investigations, Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), Trafficking In Persons (TIP) and Knowledge Base, Legal Foundations and Independent Oversight. The activities on Anti-trafficking will be carried out in cooperation with the EU. The EU contribution to the programme amounts to 20 Million EUR while the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs is 5 Million EUR.
YOUR TASKS 1. Manage the collaboration with the project implementation partners on SALW – UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), MAG and coordination with the ECOWAS Commission, particularly the Regional Security Division as well as other relevant stakeholders at the regional and national Level 2. Advise on the organisation and implementation of SALW activities in the ECOWAS region 3. Provide policy advice on SALW in line with regional and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) 4. Provide advisory services to the Fight Against Organised Crime component in programme planning and implementation on laws governing anti trafficking of SALW 5. Collaborate with appropriate representatives of Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), UNDP, MAGS and Civil Society Organisations (CSO’s) in the sector and other relevant stakeholders at the regional and national levels 6. Participate and represent the component in trainings for/on International Humanitarian Law and weapons (especially with regards to the ATT and other relevant treaties) 7. Review national and regional strategies addressing SALW Proliferation and illicit tracking 8. Work with stakeholders to develop public information and sensitization activities on arms proliferation, and its consequences and hazards (sensitisation campaigns, arms control message development and dissemination)
