JOB DESCRIPTION

GIZ International Services (InS) is an integral division of GIZ. We offer the experience, the regional and technical know-how of GIZ in the global market and provide international clients with expertise in terms of economic and result-oriented services.
GIZ International Services is shortlisted for the European Investment Bank (EIB)-funded project "Technical Assistance for the Gambia Sustainable Energy Project".

The overall objective of this Technical Assistance (TA) is to support the Gambian counterparts in the set-up and, initially, assist in running a dedicated Project Company (or an existing corporate structure or a newly established, publicly held small utility company). Furthermore, the objective is to realise and operate a portfolio of off grid solar photovoltaic (PV) energy systems with limited battery backup in up to 1100 primary and secondary education schools and health facilities in the country.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
YOUR PROFILE
Qualifications and skills
1. Professional engineer/scientists with advanced degree or degrees (or equivalent).
2. Sound judgment to provide detailed technical, commercial, environmental, social and managerial evaluation.
3. Up-to-date knowledge of capital costs and operation and maintenance cost parameters of solar photovoltaics, battery storage and other hybrid systems with storage solutions.
4. Knowledge of market and competitive analysis, tariff regimes, commercial operations, and environmental compliance.
5. Excellent communication skills in both oral and written English.

Professional experience
1. At least 5 years relevant, recent experience in renewable energy and battery storage.
2. Knowledge and hands-on recent experience in public consultation and stakeholder engagement is an advantage.
3. Experience in assisting project developers to develop bankable projects is an advantage.
4. Significant work experience in the private sector.
5. Previous experience in risk analysis, due diligence and monitoring including Procurement and Social-Environmental matters of RE projects is an advantage.
6. Relevant and recent professional experience in Africa is preferred.
LOCATION INFORMATION
The Project Team will perform the tasks at the Project Company’s premises provided by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs (MoFEA), with frequent travels to the sub-projects’ locations, partners etc. as required to meet the objectives. Some meetings in Luxembourg at EIB offices at inception and for monitoring purposes should be planned.

Start date & period of implementation: The intended start date is June 2019 and the period of implementation of the contract will be 72 months from this date.
