Advisor (m/f/d) at the Regional Center for Surveillance and Disease Control Center of the Economic Union of West African States As a federal enterprise, GIZ supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.
JOB DESCRIPTION The regional project "Supporting Pandemic Prevention in the ECOWAS Region" (RPPP) has been implemented since 2017 in cooperation with the Commission of ECOWAS (Abuja, Nigeria) and the West African Health Organization (WAHO, Bobo Dioulasso Burkina Faso) as part of a BMZ commission. The aim of the project is to strengthen ECOWAS advisory capacity towards its member countries in building selected core capacities in accordance with the International Health Regulations (IHR). The thematic focus is on strengthening communication of health risks, improving interinstitutional communication and coordination, and strengthening human resources in the area of disease control. RPPP is thus supporting the establishment of the ECOWAS Regional Disease Control Center (RCSDC) in Abuja, together with other Development partners. In addition to the regional level, the project will also be implemented at country level, namely in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Togo. The expansion of RPPP is based on an initial cooperation with the EU and additional funding from the BMZ. A stronger focus will be placed on strengthening the National Coordinating Institutions (NCI) under development, the national structures supporting the Regional Center for Surveillance and Disease Control (RCSDC).
YOUR TASKS 1. Technical advice to the RCSDC, with regard to organizational development in accordance to jointly agreed requirements 2. Responsible for implementing the activities of the first three action areas in the four partner countries Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea and Togo according to the EU action 3. Report to Head of the programme 4. Steer four national advisors in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea and Togo 5. Technical coordination with the advisors of the four fields of action of the RPPP 6. Liaise with the GIZ offices and the project leader of the bilateral health projects in the four countries 7. Support of the project management, contribution to M & E regarding the performance at the country level and contribution to the knowledge management of the project

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. Master degree in Health Science, Social Sciences or Medical Science 2. Expertise in Health Security, IHR implementation, Strengthening systems of epidemic control and solid knowledge in organizational development 3. Several years of experience in development cooperation 4. Knowledge of the instruments of German development cooperation 5. Experience in the implementation of European Union cooperation projects and reporting 6. Leadership skills and experience is desirable 7. Regional experience in West Africa is an advantage 8. Fluency in German and English and/or French LOCATION INFORMATION Abuja is located in the centre of Nigeria and constitutes the capital of the country. Nice weather with temperatures of 25-35 degrees Celsius is typical for Abuja. Basic medical provision is ensured via several doctors and clinics that practice according to international standards, including a German doctor, with standard medical supplies from Germany. A German and international kindergarten, as well as international primary and secondary schools (French, American and British curriculum) offer education for children. Several international supermarket chains are open in Abuja and offer a wide range of daily-needs products. Abuja also offers a variety of sports (Football, Tennis, Squash, Swimming, Volleyball, Yoga etc.). This also includes opportunities for children. The arts and cultures scene in Abuja is young, but steadily growing. The number of international restaurants and cafés is increasing. Additionally, there are many traditional food places in town.
