Head (m/f/d) of Component Private Sector Development and Value Chains As a federal enterprise, GIZ supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.
JOB DESCRIPTION The development cooperation programme "Pro-Poor Growth and Promotion of Employment in Nigeria" – SEDIN aims to improve the employment and income situation of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). It currently consists of a financial sector development component (access to financial services, financial literacy) and a private sector development component (framework conditions for MSME development, access to business services, entrepreneurship skills development) as well as the "Nigeria Competitiveness Project", which is co-financed by the European Union and extends the approaches of the project to new regions and value chains. The programme works on agricultural (cassava, potatoes, rice, tomato, ginger) and non-agricultural value chains (affordable housing, information and communication technology, leather and textile goods). The programme also includes measures to improve the employment situation of returnees and potential migrants. The regional focus of the programme is on the federal states Plateau, Niger, Kaduna, Ogun, Oyo, Lagos and Edo.
YOUR TASKS 1. Managing the private sector development component of the programme, including technical steering and line management responsibilities. 2. Steering of project interventions in the areas 1) MSME business environment 2) business development services 3) entrepreneurship skills development. 3. Advising implementing partners at national and state levels. 4. Planning, monitoring and evaluation of project interventions and results. 5. Planning and monitoring of component cash flows. 6. Supervising national long-term experts. 7. Managing international and national consulting missions. 8. Ensuring synergies with the Nigeria Competitiveness Project (NICOP) and other projects in GIZ’s Sustainable Economic Development Cluster. 9. Supporting the management of the overall programme.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. University degree (master) in economics, social sciences or any other field relevant to the position 2. several years of professional experience in MSME and employment promotion 3. several years of experience in the implementation of development corporation projects, good knowledge of GIZ standards and procedures are an advantage 4. in-depth knowledge of business enabling environment and MSME skills development as well as the promotion of value chains 5. team-orientated and experience in leading heterogeneous teams 6. high competence to cooperate in an international context, high frustration tolerance and good communication skills 7. Fluent in German and English LOCATION INFORMATION Abuja has a warm and humid rainy season, which lasts from April to October. The daily maximum temperatures are just under 30 degrees. In the dry season there is almost no rainfall and the temperatures rise to over 35 degrees in the months of February and March. The temperatures at night are not less than 20 degrees all year round. At the end of the dry season, around January to March, the Harmattan, a land breeze from the northeast, can transport large quantities of dust from the Sahara. This impairs visibility, burdens the respiratory tract and often leads to poorer mobile phone and satellite connections.
Basic medical care is provided by several doctors and clinics in Abuja who practice according to international standards.
