JOB DESCRIPTION Under the Green Innovation Centres for the Agriculture and Food Sector project in Zambia (part of the Special Initiative ONE WORLD – No Hunger), GIZ provides support to the dairy value chain in Zambia’s Southern Province focusing on small-scale dairy farmers and their cooperatives. For this purpose, GIZ established three Practical Dairy Learning Centres (PDLCs) in Zimba, Magoye and Namwala which are run by Dairy Cooperatives and offer short-term training courses on topics in animal husbandry and milk production, animal health, fodder production, etc. By improving farmers’ skills and knowledge in dairy farming, the project aims to improve productivity and income levels as well as to prepare farmers to better cope with external threats such as livestock diseases or the effects of climate change.
YOUR TASKS Providing operational support to the three PDLCs helping to establish high-quality training courses and good business management practices by: 1. Supporting the operations management of the three PDLCs for both, the academic operations and the administrative/business operations 2. Supporting the curriculum design and ensuring quality management 3. Developing a methodological concept for the delivery of short training courses to guarantee optimal learning outcomes including the development of teaching aids 4. Supporting the design and implementation of a student recruitment and centre marketing strategy 5. Establishing a platform for networking, information sharing and collaboration among PDLCs and stakeholders that will be sustainable beyond the project 6. Empowering PDLC staff in management activities 7. Providing ongoing general advisory support to the PDLCs

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. Degree in agricultural sciences, veterinary sciences, teaching or a related subject 2. Several years of practical experience in vocational training, including operations and business management of a training centre 3. Knowledge in organizational development is an advantage 4. Excellent communication, interpersonal and intercultural skills 5. Fluency in English (written and oral)
LOCATION INFORMATION 1. Place of residence: Southern Province 2. Climate: Zambia has a pleasant tropical climate with three seasons – cool and dry from May to August, hot and dry from September to November, and warm and wet from December to April 3. Healthcare: Good healthcare facilities are available in the capital and basic healthcare services are available in the Provincial capital Choma or the District capitals 4. Supply and shopping facilities: Available 5. Accessibility: Southern Province is accessible by road from Lusaka (i.e. Lusaka - Choma approximately five hours by car) 6. Children and school situation: Location is suitable for families with children (including infants). A range of both state-funded and private schools are available; international boarding school available in Lusaka.The school fees are reimbursed according to the GIZ guidelines. 7. Security: In general, the security situation is calm. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. A contact person for security risk management is appointed at the local GIZ office. There are no special restrictions to freedom of movement in the working environment. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment. NOTES Willingness to travel to remote areas (over 60% of the working time); driving license is required.
