JOB DESCRIPTION
The global programme ‘Sustainability and Value Added in the Cotton Economy’ is part of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) special initiative ‘One World – No Hunger’. It focuses in particular on increasing the production of sustainable cotton and strengthening downstream processing stages. The approach is intended to raise incomes in the cotton industry and create new employment prospects. The partner countries of the global programme are Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Uzbekistan and India. Burkina Faso is one of the poorest countries in the world and at the same time the largest African producer and exporter of cotton. The cotton sector forms the livelihood of over 2 million people. At local level, cotton is only processed by the textile trade and semi-industrial structures into traditional home textiles and clothing articles for the domestic market. The aim of the project is to increase the value added from sustainable cotton in Burkina Faso.

YOUR TASKS
1. Assuming responsibility for overall management of the country package ‘Burkina Faso’ and its contribution towards achieving the objectives of the global programme ‘Sustainability and Value Added in the Cotton Economy’
2. Managing the coherent implementation of all project activities in the field, including budget planning and control, in consultation with the steering unit of the global programme in Germany
3. Assuming responsibility for the management of national employees (NMA)
4. Coordinating project activities with cluster coordination in the priority area "sustainable agricultural promotion" and other development cooperation (DC) projects in Burkina Faso
5. Advising state and private actors in the cotton industry with regard to sustainable cultivation methods and strengthening downstream processing stages
6. Ensuring the ongoing conceptual development and implementation of the project in Burkina Faso, in line with the concept of the global programme and in coherence and synergy with the agriculture cluster
7. Performing gender-sensitive results monitoring and reporting to the steering unit of the global program, in cooperation with cluster coordination
8. Representation of the GIZ project in the cluster and outwardly in conjunction with the cluster
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
YOUR PROFILE
1. University level degree in the area of agricultural science or economics, rural development, textile economics or in another relevant subject area that focuses on the contents of the above-mentioned topics
2. Long-Standing professional experience in international cooperation in rural areas, preferably in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa
3. Several years of professional experience in leading intercultural teams
4. Several years of professional experience in project management, in particular in budget planning and control as well as in the implementation of complex agricultural projects in international cooperation or development cooperation
5. First professional experience in the field of sustainability-oriented agricultural and policy advice relating to the promotion of private sector and value chains
6. Leadership, project management, consulting and communication skills
7. Intercultural competences, empathy and authenticity
8. Mastery language skills in German (C2) and vantage language skills in French (B2); additional language skills in English are highly desirable

LOCATION INFORMATION
