JOB DESCRIPTION The project supports the Institute for Peace & Security Studies (IPSS) at Addis Ababa University. It forms part of a GIZ programme which supports the African Union in the prevention and management of violent conflicts and peace consolidation within the framework of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA).
By offering applied research, trainings and forums for policy dialogue, the IPSS contributes to the capacity development of relevant actors and the development of practical peace and security strategies in Africa. By strengthening the institutional capacity of the IPSS, the project supports these services. YOUR TASKS 1. Technical and organizational responsibility for project implementation 2. Operational planning and monitoring of activities in the fields of training, policy dialogues and organizational development 3. Quality control and knowledge management 4. Policy advice and further development of the project steering structure as well as a sustainability strategy 5. Representing the GIZ-project vis-a-vis clients and other high-level political stakeholders. 6. Professional and disciplinary leadership of six employees. 7. Cooperation with the organizers of a high-level annual political forum in close consultation with the program leadership 8. Regular reporting and coordination with GIZ AU and the German Embassy

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. University-level degree in the area of political, social and/or regional sciences or another relevant area. 2. Strong regional expertise as well as significant management and advisory experience in the area(s) of peace & conflict; governance. 3. Several years’ professional experience in politically complex and sensible working contexts in Africa. 4. Diplomatic skills, intercultural sensitivity and strong networking skills. 5. Excellent written and spoken English. A fluent command of German, French and/or Amharic is an advantage
LOCATION INFORMATION The GIZ offers an additional benefits package for deployments in fragile security situations. The security situation is tense. It requires continuous monitoring and special security risk mitigation measures for GIZ staff. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times.
