ABOUT As a federal company, GIZ supports the federal government in achieving its goals in international cooperation for sustainable development.
FIELD OF ACTIVITY The German Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) initiated the Global Carbon Markets Programme as part of the Clean Development Mechanism/Joint Implementation (CDM/JI) initiative.
The goal is to promote the utilisation of the flexible mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol and support actors in the transition to the new market mechanisms under the Paris Agreement. In this regard, the project aims to promote carbon markets in Uganda and the East African region. It supports to enable Uganda and East African countries to play a stronger role in the use and further development of carbon market opportunities.
Furthermore, the project focuses its activities on the transfer of successful approaches and experiences of the Kyoto Protocol into the Paris Agreement. It supports to ensure the continuity of current CDM projects, the design of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement by supporting the piloted implementation of the article in detail countries and the linking of carbon market activities with the national climate change policies and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
YOUR TASKS Knowledge management and research 1. Collect, update and communicate information on climate change related aspects with a special focus on international carbon markets, carbon pricing, Nationally Determined Contributions and climate change Long-term Strategies 2. Support in developing strategies, technical concepts, studies, project reports and presentation documents 3. In consultation with the project lead, preparation and conduction of technical guidance in the development and implementation of climate change policies and strategies at both national and regional level (East Africa)
Coordination and monitoring The intern will support the project with the following tasks: 1. planning, coordination and documentation of workshops, trainings and other project activities 2. develop progress reports, concepts and policy briefs for the commissioning donor agencies and ministries 3. organizing and supporting meetings (producing agendas and taking minutes)
Communication The intern will support the project with the following tasks: 1. developing and disseminating public relations materials that increase the visibility of activities among relevant stakeholders 2. preparing communication materials such as factsheets and PowerPoint presentations

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. Bachelor or Masters in renewable energy, economics, climate change, environment, sustainability, natural resources or any other related field. 2. Strong knowledge of international climate change discussions and relevant international frameworks such as the United Nation Framework for Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement 3. Good knowledge on international carbon markets and carbon pricing approaches in developing countries 4. Good knowledge on mitigation aspects of Nationally Determined Contributions and climate change Long-term Strategies 5. Excellent English language skills (spoken and written) 6. Very strong communication skills both orally and in writing, very good presentation skills 7. Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office, Excel or other database programs)

We pay a monthly stipend of €1.608,- (gross). Depending on the country of assignment a monthly expatriation allowance (gross), predetermined by GIZ will be paid on top.
