JOB DESCRIPTION The Great Lakes region is characterised by conflict. The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) as a regional organisation is addressing this problem. Since 2006, German Development Cooperation has been supporting the ICGLR Secretariat based in Bujumbura/Burundi (mainly the Regional Initiative for the Containment of Illicit Trade in Natural Resources - RINR). GIZ's contribution focuses on strengthening the competencies of the Conference Secretariat and the ICGLR's national coordination mechanisms for political coordination and technical support for the implementation of the regional certification mechanism. This also includes supporting the ICGLR in its participation in international policy processes and initiatives of the private sector and civil society.
YOUR TASKS 1. Implementation of activities in the field of mineral governance and responsible supply chains 2. Support of the component management in conception, planning and monitoring of activities together with the partner organisation 3. Supporting component management in network building and cooperation with international initiatives to combat illicit trade in conflict minerals and certification of supply chains 4. Implementation of own work packages 5. Active contributions to knowledge management, support for programme management and component management within the framework of specialist networks as well as to the external presentation and presentation of the project 6. Support of the programme management in reporting and other general tasks

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. University Degree in economics, political sciences, geosciences, economics or comparable fields of study 2. Several years of relevant working experience in similar areas/ positions 3. Knowledge and expertise in the field of extractive minerals governance and/or conflict minerals 4. Regional experience in Sub-Saharan Africa is an advantage 5. High political sensitivity and a confident appearance both in specialist committees and at the highest political level 6. High creative will and goal-oriented 7. Flexibility and above-average commitment 8. Excellent self-management and structured working style as well as the courage to set priorities 9. Very Good oral and written skills in French and English
LOCATION INFORMATION Health care: There is a network of government hospitals in larger cities. Basic care is guaranteed. In more serious cases, transport outside the country (e.g. to Nairobi) may be necessary.Climate: Due to the altitude, the climate is moderate and rather mildly humid despite the proximity to the equator. Pleasant highland climate at 1500 m. Temperatures during the day are usually max. 30 °C, at night about 15 °C. Long rainy season: February - May, long dry season: May - September, followed by short rainy and dry seasons.Shopping and supply possibilities: Currency is the RWF (Rwandan Franc). USD and Euro can be exchanged without problems at banks, larger hotels and exchange offices. School situation: Kigali has several international schools. There is an English-speaking international school with a degree: International Baccalaureat, a French and a Belgian school (both French speaking), as well as a Montessori school. There is no German school. The location is suitable for families with children. There is childcare for kindergarten children in English and French available.
