JOB DESCRIPTION
The Civil Peace Service (ZFD) of GIZ in Niger, Burkina Faso and Benin supports the non-violent management of conflicts in the area of cross-border transhumance. In the Dosso region in the south of Niger on the border to Benin, the GIZ ZFD programme supports - in cooperation with other GIZ projects - local organisations in the transformation of land and water conflicts between herders and farmers

YOUR TASKS
1. Technical support for local partners
2. Conduction of extensive conflict and stakeholder analyses at two locations in the Dosso region
3. Training of local actors in non-violent conflict management and methods of conflict prevention and transformation
4. Implementation and monitoring of dialogue forums consisting of key actors with the aim of jointly developing and coordinating concrete approaches to existing conflicts
5. Technical support to institutional structures responsible for natural resource management at local and regional level
6. Dissemination and communication of relevant aspects of rural land policy to farmers and pastoralists
7. Promotion of conflict-sensitive and non-stigmatising communication and reporting by the local media
8. Planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of project activities
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
YOUR PROFILE
1. Completed studies in political science, environmental science, anthropology or an other relevant field of studies
2. knowledge and/or experience of conflict prevention and transformation in the field of natural resource management
3. Knowledge about and interest in agro-pastoral systems
4. Social and intercultural competence, ability to work in a team, organisational skills and flexibility as well as independent working and a high sense of responsibility
5. Sensitivity to the complex positions and needs of the multi-stakeholder environment
6. Analytical thinking and communication skills
7. Work experience in Africa desired
8. Very good knowledge of French; good knowledge of German and English is an asset

Development workers contribute their professional expertise to non-governmental and state organisations in partner countries. They train, advise and design projects jointly with the partner organisations. Development workers do not receive a customary salary, but can instead claim a living allowance, as well as family, health and insurance benefits. Your assignment will begin with several intensive weeks of preparation (including for your family) in Germany and in your partner country. When you finish your assignment in your partner country, you will receive support in reintegrating into working life and society in your country of origin.
