JOB ADVERT SUMMARY The Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa (Land Bank) is South Africa’s only specialist agricultural bank established in 1912, the bank’s sole objective is to serve South African commercial and emerging farmers and bring specially designed financial services within their reach. These services enable farmers to finance land, equipment, improve assets and obtain production credit. As change has swept across the sector in South Africa the socio-economic makeup of agriculture has altered, bringing new entrants from historically disadvantaged backgrounds on to the land, these new farmers, facing the challenges of establishing sustainable agri-businesses across the agricultural value chain, Land Bank has been a commercial lifeline offering appropriately designed financial products that facilitate personal and commercial viability in a sector that is vital to the sustainability of South Africa and its people.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB To ensure the development, growth and sustainability of the Land Bank loan Portfolio through the execution of development projects for the AGRI sector: 1. Identifying, pursuing and initiating projects to grow the sector in partnership with relevant DFI’s, Intermediaries, Clients and, or Private Entities. 2. In collaboration with Management set the strategic and operational direction for project origination and project preparation for investment with relevant partners. 3. Taking a lead in terms of appraisal of development projects with inputs from sectorial specialists and business analysts to confirm the development impact. 4. Conducting a comprehensive analysis required for the effective structuring and packaging of development project transactions and provide innovative and flexible financial structures / solutions for various levels (complexity) of development transactions.
Key Performance Areas Portfolio Management 1. Actively Manage Client Portfolio to ensure loan book sustainability and growth. 2. Facilitate meetings with clients / partners / intermediaries to ascertain development lending requirements.
Project Identification, Preparation and Structuring 1. Identify, pursue and initiate opportunities to grow the development market within the Agri Sector and ensure alignment to the Strategic Pillars 2. Engage appropriate team resources to initiate negotiations with potential partners and lead transactors of funders/sponsors to address development financing needs. 3. Analyse and evaluate the project/s to determine viability and the economic impact of the project/s within the sector and ensure alignment to mandate. 4. Conduct detailed feasibility studies (economic, technical, financials, social, environmental etc.). 5. Provide innovative and flexible financing solutions for the project/s. 6. Structure and package the project to ensure the most optimal deal considering legal aspects, regulations and the mandate of the Bank, and specifically the objective of development. 7. Identify the key project role players, negotiate key performance areas and project milestones, manage project scope and develop project reporting mechanisms. 8. Negotiate the essential success factors of the projects / transactions / deals with the relevant parties to the projects/transactions. 9. Collaborate with the Front-line business divisions to ensure project continuation once bankability has been achieved. 10. Keep the all stakeholders regularly informed of the status of the application. 11. Manage service providers appointed to consult/assist with development of feasibility studies/financial models/operating models/etc.
Stakeholder Relationship Management 1. Build, foster and maintain consistent, effective and strong relationships with key industry role players and strengthen relationships. 2. Special focus on partners that have similar development objectives with the Bank, such as Government Departments, Development Finance Institutions, Other Sponsor Funders, and Intermediaries. 3. Stay up to date with Agri initiatives and developments and further strengthen the relationship to assess further business opportunities to promote long term mutually beneficial relationships. 4. Participate in marketing events, whether hosted or invited. 5. Ensure that all stakeholders remain aware of the value of the Land Bank’s products, the processes and principles related to agricultural financing within the Land Bank environment. 6. Provide information to emerging farmers, potential agents and other stakeholders through presentations, attendance of agricultural shows/events and the like. 7. Demonstrate good product and industry knowledge and ensure that any material representing the Land Bank is in accordance to the accepted standards, and Clients are aware of the value of the products the principles and processes.

PREFERRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 1. Relevant B-Degree in Finance, Business Management, Economics, or Development Finance or NQF level 6 qualification in one of the following areas of specialisation– Accounting / Finance / Banking / Economics 2. 5 years experience in identifying, negotiating and closing Projects in development 3. 3-5 years experience in feasibility Studies, Structuring and Packaging of transactions 4. 3 years experience in relationship development and management of Key Stakeholders and External technical, legal and advisory teams
