JOB DESCRIPTION Commercial agricultural investments exert mounting pressure on land resources. Due to limited safeguarding measures, such investments can prevent access to land and natural resources, and cause conflicts and environmental degradation.
JOB PROFILE The project aims at improving the regulatory framework for land investments and at strengthening the capacities of government, civil society as well as investors. For instance, agricultural investors are capacitated to comply with international principles for responsible investments in land. Local governments and investors are encouraged to include perspectives of the civil society during the investment planning and implementation process, for example when identifying and transferring land; thereby promoting sustainable value chain development and inclusive business planning.
YOUR TASKS 1. Supporting domestic investors in Gambella and Amhara regions to comply with environmental and social standards, focusing on good agricultural practices (GAP), value chain development and market access 2. Strengthening investors’ associations, for example analyses of relevant markets, inclusive business development planning and identifying capacity needs 3. Strengthening investors’ associations and regional governments in establishing contract farming and out grower schemes 4. Analyzing monitoring data for continuous improvements of service delivery to the associations’ members 5. Identifying productivity gaps and value-adding activities for identified crops and identifying training needs for improving the quality of production and processing 6. Coordinating all value chain related activities and trainings with relevant stakeholders (investors, smallholders, service providers, cooperatives, Technical and Vocational Education and Trainings (TVETs) and local institutions) 7. Consolidating existing participation mechanisms to develop innovative formats, tools and trainings to enhance citizens’ participation in land use planning and land investment decision-making 8. Regionally coordinating with external consultants and service providers

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. University degree in business administration, organizational development, agricultural business, agricultural economics or management or similar qualification 2. Several years of professional experience on value chain promotion or private sector development 3. Knowledge of processes in (agricultural) associations (management and operating structure, financing and results-based monitoring) 4. Some work experience in land governance and/or strengthening citizens’ participation, transparency and accountability within agricultural investments 5. Experience in advising, coaching, training and application of participatory tools 6. Intercultural skills with respect to cultural communication and interaction forms 7. Work experience in development cooperation, ideally in East Africa 8. Good knowledge of English in speaking and writing, willingness to learn the Amharic language
