FIELD OF ACTIVITY The project "Competitive and climate-resilient agriculture and food industry in Namibia" supports the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform in its efforts to make the agricultural sector in Namibia climate-adaptive, market-oriented and food-safe. With the involvement of a large number of implementation partners, the project is active on a political, institutional and target group level. Following this holistic approach, the framework conditions for smallholder seed production are to be improved and the skills of smallholders and the agricultural advisory structure for climate-adapted agriculture are to be expanded.
YOUR TASKS 1. Technical support of the Directorate for Agricultural Research and Development of the partner ministry 2. Supervision of the cooperation with universities and the partner ministry in applied research on plant breeding and seed production 3. Participation in the sector working group and support in the development of measures to regulate the production of certified seeds and the registration process 4. Planning and implementation of field work with the partner ministry as well as implementation of training measures in the field of seed production and multiplication for smallholders 5. Organizational development of seed production communities and cooperatives 6. Technical support of the partner ministry in the preparation of existing training materials for seed production 7. Support of the project management with technical questions, ensuring the ability to speak and reporting on current developments in the agricultural sector and in the respective intervention areas

YOUR PROFILE 1. University degree in agricultural or horticultural sciences, with specialization in plant breeding or plant technology, applied plant biology, seed sciences and technology, crop sciences or other relevant specialization in the field of botany 2. Many years of professional experience in seed production, plant breeding or research on grain, fodder plants and legumes 3. Well-founded professional expertise in agricultural development and advice with a focus on small-scale seed production 4. Knowledge of business models as well as farm management, plant breeding and cooperation in seed research 5. Strong didactic skills and initial experience in adult education or practical training 6. Strong communication and cooperation skills in an intercultural context and versatility in dialogue with and in advising partner institutions as well as in working with target groups 7. Many years of professional experience in international cooperation, including several years abroad 8. Proficient in German and English

The location of the position is Outapi, about 830 km north-west of Windhoek and near the border with Angola, and is the administrative seat of the Omusati region. The small town has about 15,000 inhabitants and is one of the fastest growing demographically and economically growing small towns in Namibia
Outapi is climatically located in the very dry north-west of the country, with an average rainfall of approx. 400 mm per annum and average temperatures of approx. 30 ° C
