FIELD OF ACTIVITY The Ethiopian government has adopted an Industrial Development Policy to transform the currently agricultural-led economy into an industry-based one, aiming to lift the population out of poverty and becoming a middle-income country by 2025. The textile and garment industries are considered priority sectors on the path to industrialization. These sectors are, however, often characterized by precarious working conditions, low wages, non-compliance with human rights and social and ecological standards. The Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Department for International Development (DFID) funded project "Promoting Sustainable Growth in the Textile and Garment Industry in Ethiopia" aims at job-effective growth and social and environmental sustainability of the textile and garment industry, by ensuring better working conditions for workers, better management in four industrial parks, increased sustainability on industrial park and company level, improving institutional frameworks and improving capacities of local companies.
YOUR TASKS 1. Advising the Industrial Park based in Mekele 2. Focus topics are Labour Standards, Sustainability, Management 3. Plan and monitor inputs, activities and outreach, according to the overall project planning and management tools in cooperation with the team 4. Plan and implement support to the Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC) regarding measures to promote management and sustainability 5. Assist in the development and implementation of concepts to improve occupational safety and health (OSH) at industrial park level, in coordination and cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO) 6. Support in the overall project implementation, knowledge management and handling cross-cutting issues in close coordination with the team based in Addis Ababa 7. Contribute to monitoring and project progress reporting

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. University degree in Economics, Labour, Business Administration, Business Logistics, International Relations or other relevant fields 2. Minimum 10 years experience in one or more of the following areas: Industrial park management, coordination, investors’ guidance or customer relation, community linkages, CSR for industry, environment, social sustainability as well as project management and co-ordination of various stakeholders 3. Prior work experience in the private sector, preferabily in the textile and garment sector or industrial parks management, is an advantage 4. Excellent communication skills, cultural sensitivity, teamwork, ability to work under pressure and flexibility 5. Very good organisational skills and structured working methods 6. Written and oral fluency in English; Good command of German is an advantage

Climate: Dry-winter subtropical highland climate with a rainy season from June to September (1,420 mm AAR, 8°-29° C). Health care: Health care with general practitioners, one public and private hospital, specialists in Addis Ababa. Shopping options: Various small supermarkets, markets for fresh products, shops for clothing and household equipment. Accessibility: Several daily flights to Addis Ababa. School situation and school fees: Variety of international schools and kindergartens are available in Addis Ababa, reimbursement according to GIZ regulations. Incumbent should have a car driving license.
