ABOUT As a federal enterprise, GIZ supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development.
JOB DESCRIPTION The project strengthens the capacities of partner countries to successfully implement climate policies (with a focus on Nationally Determined Contributions, NDCs and Long-term strategies, LTS) to reduce greenhouse gases, and thus helps them to contribute to achieving the long-term objective of the Paris Agreement. It promotes the use of carbon market mechanisms and carbon pricing to implement climate action by supporting the private and public sector in East Africa. Moreover, the project aims to enhance regional cooperation among the Eastern African countries by supporting the Eastern African Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance. The Alliance aims to strengthen capacities of the member countries as well as offer a platform where countries can share experiences and foster a regional approach towards the future international carbon mechanism of Article 6, carbon pricing and climate finance.
YOUR TASKS The position includes the following tasks: 1. Collecting, updating and communicating information on climate change related aspects with a special focus on international carbon markets, carbon pricing, Nationally Determined Contributions and climate change long-term strategies 2. Support in developing strategies, technical concepts, studies, project reports and presentation documents 3. Preparing, conducting and technical guidance in the development and implementation of climate change policies and strategies at both national and regional level (East Africa) 4. Planning, coordinating and documenting workshops, trainings and other project activities 5. Developing progress reports, concepts and policy briefs for the commissioning donor agencies and ministries 6. Developing and disseminating public relations materials that increase the visibility of activities among relevant stakeholders

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. Advanced studies in renewable energy, economics, climate change, environment, sustainability, natural resources or any other related field 2. Good knowledge of international climate change discussions and relevant international frameworks such as the United Nation Framework for Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement 3. Good knowledge on international carbon markets and carbon pricing approaches in developing countries 4. Good knowledge on mitigation aspects of Nationally Determined Contributions and climate change long-term strategies 5. Excellent English language skills (spoken and written) 6. Very strong communication skills both orally and in written, very good presentation skills 7. Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office, Excel or other database programs)

We pay a monthly stipend of €1.634,- (gross). Depending on the country of assignment a monthly expatriation allowance (gross), predetermined by GIZ will be paid on top.
