JOB DESCRIPTION
The Strategist is required to facilitate the development and implementation of the DBSA strategy, corporate plan including the balanced scorecard and Divisional Plans in line with the organisation’s vision and goals as well as provide detailed and accurate reporting on the strategies within the Bank.
Participate in the Corporate Strategy Formulation and Management
1. Develop the DBSA strategy, shareholder’s compact and corporate plan in line with the organisational vision and goals.
2. Develop key strategic initiatives in collaboration with all Divisions.
3. Propose additional service delivery mandates to be executed by DBSA, facilitate and filter requests for additional development activities from Government.
4. Facilitate the identification of new growth areas for DBSA.
5. Participate in general strategy formulation debates and draw conclusions necessary to influence the Bank’s decision-making process.
6. Provide strategy input and support to the Head: Corporate Strategy with regard to key strategic initiatives.

To provide support in terms of the facilitation and development of the Annual Corporate Plan
1. Support and communicate Corporate Balanced Scorecard (BSC) development including development of key performance indicators and targets.
2. Conduct and facilitate the presentation of Corporate BSC to stakeholders.
3. Recommend and implement the improvement of relevant tools and instruments for monitoring and measuring strategic implementation across the Bank’s various divisions/units including risk areas through liaising with divisions.
4. Provide inputs and advisory support to the various DBSA Divisions on the development of the Corporate BSC, including targets and the cascading thereof.
5. Submission of the strategy to the Board for deliberation, evaluation and approval.
6. Review the BSC mid-year in terms of performance and submit proposals to Board regarding deliverables and their possible amendment/expansion.
7. Preparation and presentation of the Corporate Performance reports to stakeholders (internal and external).

1. Quality of the Shareholder Compact, Corporate Plan and BSC and alignment to DBSA mandate and direction
2. Quality of the annual strategic planning process, including engagement with stakeholders
3. Quality of presentations and reports.
4. Successful execution of strategic initiatives and projects
5. Clean audit in respect of corporate and divisional performance
6. Produce relevant content, accurate and reliable information for all reports/presentations and in response to stakeholder requests
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
1. A post graduate degree with finance, strategy planning and organisation development subjects as a preference.
2. At least three-five year’s work experience within strategy role/function.
3. Exposure to development finance or wholesale banking in a similar role would be advantageous.
4. Strong and proven foundation in economics and/or accounting/finance including financial budgeting and forecasting.
5. Understanding and exposure to Balanced Scorecard configuration and reviews, strategic project management and strategy planning.
6. Experience with report writing
7. Familiar with governance processes Companies Act, PFMA, King IV, etc
