INTRODUCTION
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an African-led and Africa-based international research institute committed to conducting high quality and policy-relevant multidisciplinary research. Our researchers address critical development issues and challenges facing sub- Saharan Africa (SSA) in areas such as education, population, health, aging, urbanization, and wellbeing. Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action, engage with policymakers in the region to disseminate our research findings, influence policy decisions, and improve the quality of life in Africa.

JOB PROFILE
The APHRC seeks to recruit a Scientific Writer to work in the Maternal and Child Wellbeing Unit within the Research Division. The Scientific Writer will work in the COVID-19 Human Rights Project.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Lead the writing of a scientific paper with an agreed upon style and within strict time frames, including to:
2. Conduct review of relevant literature and synthesize findings
3. Analyze qualitative data, review protocol and report, to inform the paper
4. Liaise/consult the project team to determine and agree on the publication content
5. Draft the first draft of the paper
6. Incorporate comments on the first draft from researchers and finalize the paper for submission to an appropriate journal
7. Perform other job duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
1. Minimum of postgraduate degree from a recognized university in public health, nutrition, human rights, law, social studies or other related field.
2. Have proven track record of publishing scientific papers.
3. Demonstrated experience in nutrition/public health or human rights research
4. Demonstrated experience in qualitative research and writing
5. Be fluent in English

Added advantage
1. Experience in the Kenyan context
2. Fluency in Kiswahili
