OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
To lead a team:
1. To drive collaborative, proactive planning with other business units / divisions to build industry road maps and identify development and execution priorities.
2. To lead the identification and development of projects through the Project Development Life Cycle to achieve the IDC’s strategic objectives and contribute to industry development goals.
3. To provide industry knowledge and sector-specific developments with the objective to position the IDC as a “thought-leader” within industry development and to identify areas of opportunities within the value chain.
4. To develop high impact projects that support industry strategies including project identification, scoping, and development to bankable feasibility.
5. Co-ordinate and oversee all project activities within the manufacturing sector
6. Close collaboration with other Planning and Project heads to ensure identification of adjacent opportunities and guide policy on sectoral development
7. In collaboration with Head and other Sector Leads, build proper project governance and oversight.
8. In collaboration with Head and other Sector Leads build deep project development skills and capabilities across the unit.
9. Provide strategic leadership and management to a team to ensureHigh performance
10. Provide leadership and drive culture transformation that foster a cultureconsistent with the Corporation’s values (Passion, Professionalism and Partnership)

Reporting Relationship
The Sector Lead: Mining, Metals, Infrastructure and Energy will report to the Head: Industry Planning and Project Development

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Financial /Shareholder Returns
1. Ensure that all projects are developed and structured in such a way to facilitate inclusive development and maximize developmental impact.
2. Deliver on initiatives that enhance the competitiveness of priority sectors.
3. Achieve high success rate on project development.
4. Crowd in risk capital to prioritise projects.

Internal /Operational Processes
1. Lead the IDC’s participation in specific projects during the different phases of the Project Development (idea generation, project scoping, pre-feasibility study, bankable feasibility study – (BFS).
2. Lead the evaluation of projects at every Decision Gate of the Project Development Life Cycle up to the conclusion of the BFS phase
3. Formulation of industry development strategies and associated action plans aligned to IDGs and SDGs;
4. Identify opportunities and constraints for industry development.
5. Ensure effective long term industry planning, alignment and co-ordination with SBU Heads.
6. Build proper project governance and oversight.
7. Proactive identification of project opportunities to build the pipeline.
8. Scoping / Assessment of externally generated project opportunities.
9. Ensure alignment of projects and SBUs to the strategic objectives.
10. Lead effective project-specific risk management through all the phases of Project Development up to the conclusion of the BFS phase.
11. Development and implementation of strategies or action plans to drive the Unit’s strategic objectives.
12. Quality control of projects during development phases.
13. Contribute to strategy development for the Unit to maximise development impact.
14. Lead the preparation and presentation of reports to relevant internal committees for decision making during the project development phases.
15. Contribute to the improvement of competence and knowledge of project ideation / origination / initiation and development
16. Leads and develops the definition and measurement of success metrics to objectively quantify project success. Report progress against agreed plans
17. Lead and guide project steering committees.

Customer Focus & Stakeholder Management
1. Building influential and sustainable relationships with strategic partners to assist IDC in achieving its strategic objectives.
2. To establish and maintain effective networks and build IDC brand awareness.
3. IDC representation on Boards / Steering Committees
4. To effectively interact with different SBU’s and departments to fulfil the process requirements related to any specific project.
5. Manage and enhance the levels of service and communication to ensure the provision of client service excellence.

Learning, Leadership & People Growth
1. Remain abreast of best practice project planning and development and implementation principles.
2. Provide strategic leadership and management to maximize effectiveness and drive high performance and delivery
3. Ensure the effective management of the team, including employee motivation and development
4. Protect the interest and wellbeing of employees and establish suitable communication lines with them
5. Provide leadership that fosters a culture consistent with the Corporation’s
6. Conduct peer reviews for Senior / Project Development Managers
7. Coaching and mentoring of team members.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Minimum qualification: relevant commercial or technical Honours Degree or equivalent qualification.
2. MBA or Master’s would be an advantage.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
1. 10-12 years related experience of which 8 years should be in project development
2. At least 5 years’ experience at a leadership level and management of teams
3. Active experience in early stage project development and understanding of project life cycle
4. Sound knowledge of key project development risk drivers
5. Previous project planning and development experience dealing with multiple partners/funders
6. Deep mining, metals, infrastructure and energy knowledge or related sectors.
7. Extensive knowledge of environmental and government regulatory requirements in projects e.g. (application of EIA, water licence applications)
8. Detailed understanding and application of corporate management and structuring processes
9. Knowledge of legislation issues surrounding projects (contract management and dispute resolution)
10. Detailed understanding and application of project development and project finance
11. Project leadership (complex projects)
12. Experience in peer review
13. Experience in interpretation of financial statements
14. Experience in financial modelling
15. Knowledge of the market environment and technology landscape
16. Knowledge of financing instruments
17. Understand and review models of proposed financial structures
18. Competent in coaching and mentoring of team members
19. Experience in engaging, managing and negotiating with relevant specialist bodies, government institutions, industry associations etc.
20. Experience working in a high-level collaborative environment
21. Ability to manage multiple competing priorities while building effective relationships
