JOB DESCRIPTION The ‘Better Migration Management’ (BMM) program is addressing the many forms of migration in the Horn of Africa region with the aim of improving the national and regional management of migration towards a safe, orderly and secure migration. A second focus is on improving the capacities of addressing trafficking and smuggling networks in the region. GIZ is leading an implementing partnership consisting of national and multinational organizations that carries out measures in the fields of policy consultation, capacity building of regional and local institutions which deal with migration and protection of trafficking victims and vulnerable migrants. The program implements in Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. In Sudan, the program supports the government in the areas of “policy harmonization”, “effective Institutions” in the areas of fighting human trafficking and “protection” for vulnerable migrants.
YOUR TASKS 1. Assist to the preparation and coordination of reports, concept notes, proposals and statements of the country/regional measure for the contracting authority; EU and Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development as assigned 2. Assist to the coordination with BMM’s Implementing Partners as well as cooperation, regular contact and dialogue with national partner institutions 3. Support of administrative and technical processes internally (Country office, Coordination Unit) and externally (external public/professional networks) in consultation with the national coordinator 4. Support to project evaluation measures 5. Representation on behalf of the project as assigned 6. Assist in organizing and facilitating missions of short-term experts for GIZ-BMM, steering of subcontractors (studies, trainings, lessons learnt, etc.) 7. Assist with research activities and studies in relation with training sector 8. Perform such other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. University degree, preferably in migration studies, political or social sciences, economics, regional or administrative sciences, law or a comparable education in the fields of police, border security, etc. 2. First experience in the areas of refugee work, protection of trafficking victims, anti-trafficking, peace and security 3. Previous experience in the management of development cooperation programs; relevant experience in Africa and/or a crisis region 4. Application knowledge of the German development cooperation as well as GIZ and EU procedures 5. Previous experience in political consulting of regional and national partner organizations 6. Fluent German and English skills; Arabic skills are an asset
LOCATION INFORMATION The GIZ offers an additional benefits package for deployments in fragile security situations. City of deployment is Khartoum, with good living conditions. This is a family posting, there is a small international community and international school, good shopping possibilities and normally an adequate medical provision. Several restaurants and cafes offer beside regional also international cuisine. Khartoums offers a divers leisure activities.The climate is very hot and dry in summer (above the 40 degrees celsius), medium warm temperatures in winter. Sudan is a muslin country, international staff will experience a high level of respect. The hospitality of the Sudanese is famous. Official language is Arabic, the GIZ office communicates in English. The security situation is tense. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. GIZ runs a professional security risk management system in the field of deployment. The freedom of movement is restricted. GIZ does not impose any restrictions on life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment.
